HENDERSON, N.C. — A Henderson man was shot after a Craigslist deal turned sour in Vance County Thursday night, according to authorities.

Christopher Scott Wilson, 34, was traveling with his 16-year-old son, Robert Heisler, to purchase a 2002 Honda vehicle on Sombrero Lane.

When he arrived, the seller of the vehicle asked how much money Wilson had with him. Wilson noticed the car he agreed to purchase was not visible, so he decided to leave.

According to authorities, the seller fired into Wilson’s car, grazing the left side of his head.

“He started to reach behind his back,” Wilson said. “I took off, and that’s when he fired the shot through my truck.”

Wilson said he went to a nearby store to call police.

“I had to get somewhere before I passed out,” Wilson said. “I just had to save my son.”

Wilson was treated and released from a nearby hospital.

The suspect of the shooting is still at large, according to officials.

Wilson said he had spoken with the seller for two days and agreed on a price of $900 for the vehicle.

“At first he looked like a normal person waving his hands and everything,” Wilson said. “I thought it was legit.”

The Vance County Sheriff’s office said the department will offer an escort to any citizen responding to a Craigslist ad within Vance County.
