HENDERSON, N.C. — A Vance County grand jury has indicted a Henderson man on a charge of involuntary manslaughter in the death of his 18-month-old stepdaughter.

Dontavious Washington, 24, of 130 Boothe Ave., had previously been charged with felony child abuse in Destini Bullock's death. His bond has been reduced from $500,000 to $25,000.

Destini died May 20 of "non-accidental" head injuries, according to an autopsy report. She had a large bruise and cuts on her left cheek, face and eyelid and hemorrhages in both eyes.

Authorities were told initially that Destini was sleeping in the arms of a male caregiver who became startled, jumped out of bed and dropped her, according to medical documents.
