— A Vance County grand jury has indicted a Henderson man on a charge of involuntary manslaughter in the death of his 18-month-old stepdaughter.

Dontavious Washington, 24, of 130 Boothe Ave., had previously been charged with felony child abuse in Destini Bullock's death. His bond has been reduced from $500,000 to $25,000.

Destini died May 20 of "non-accidental" head injuries, according to an autopsy report. She had a large bruise and cuts on her left cheek, face and eyelid and hemorrhages in both eyes.

Authorities were told initially that Destini was sleeping in the arms of a male caregiver who became startled, jumped out of bed and dropped her, according to medical documents.

I thought with all the high tech stuff now a days they could determine the difference in abuse of someone being battered or from them being dropped.

This just doesn't make any sense at all. The child is dead, and they reduce the bond. What am I missing here - somebody PLEASE explain this to me. Poor little baby.

Oldest excuse in the world and I also admit that I'm the biggest skeptic in the world. In my courtroom, you're guilty until you're proven innocent.

It is not outside the realm of possibility that he was asleep with this baby and fell on her outside the bed. It appears to me that prosecutors may think so. For all of you tht want to sleep with babies, pls do not. Take the time to put them in their safe place.

Better to kill than to abuse?///

A right to a fair trial.

So, his bail was reduced. Better to kill than to abuse?///

This man was seems to be irresponsible in keeping babies and children. Still the courts needs to allow him to face his consequences of 30 years in prison.

The justice system in this state needs to be completely overhauled....judges and D.A.'s are elected officials folks....if you're not happy with your current situation then hit the polls come election time.

What in the world is wrong with these people??? They are considering charging a 95 yr old man who accidently killed a woman in the walmart parking lot but bow down at the intentional death of a child!! This is why I despise the so called justice sytem in NC!!! He should be charged with 1st degree murder and what he gets is what he gets!!! Get it together people and start taking care of the public and not your wallets!!!

The DA is scared to go after anyone for murder! Check his record! Its time we get someone to make a stand and make the changes in the courts system that are long overdue! Our courts are a joke! It will take a year to get a traffic ticket taken care of! So how long will it take this one in court! Heck took too durn long to get a grand jury indictment for a manslaughter charge, which is a joke!
