HENDERSON, N.C. — The North Carolina Division of Motor Vehicles on Wednesday closed an independent license plate office in Henderson amid an investigation into the office's finances, officials said.

The DMV investigation, which is ongoing, determined accounting irregularities and other undisclosed inappropriate activities warranted the immediate closure of the office at 946-D W. Andrews Ave. and the termination of its state contract, officials said. The office had worked with the DMV for 20 years.

Until a new contractor is hired in Henderson to provide license plate renewals, vehicle registrations and title transactions, DMV officials said people can go to offices at 808 S. Bickett Blvd. in Louisburg or 120 Roxboro Road in Oxford.
