Help a Mom: Looking for inexpensive photography classes

Published: 2013-01-22 20:40:00
Updated: 2013-01-22 20:40:00

I fielded this question last week from a mom who wants to learn more about photography.

She just got a new camera for Christmas and would love to know more about how to use it, but she doesn't have a lot of money to spend on a class. Here's what she wrote:

I am looking for a cheap photography class in or around the Apex area. Do any of your at-home mothers offer a photography classes for cheap?

She's found a couple of options, but they are out of her price range, charging between $100 and $300 for two-hour lessons.

Can you recommend a class? Please share in the comments below. (If you don't see the comments box below, you'll need to log in or sign up for a WRAL account. You can do that by going to the top of the page and clicking on either "log in" or "register").

your local community college

Check groupon, dealsaver, and amazon local deals. I see photography classes featured on them often.

nothing beats a class given by a true professional whatever the subject matter is...sorry but those people don't sell on groupon and dealsaver.

after all would you buy a groupon for a root canal or services from an attorney to get your traffic ticket resolved?? ILOL.

cheap does not mean good, most times you get what you pay for, imo.

Check with your local community college; I know Wake Tech offers classes at night at some of the high schools around the area (Sanderson etc)

check Raleigh Parks and Recreation Leisure Ledger

Living social has photography class special today for $50, out of Apex!

From my inbox ...

Here are some places to check for cheap photography class possibilities: 1. Call Parks and Recreation in her town and ask if they are offering any. (Some city government parks departments do.) 2. Call the local high school and leave a message for the photography teacher to call and get his/her input. 3. Check with the larger churches in the area to see if they have any upcoming classes.(My church, Ridgecrest Baptist in Durham, will have various classes including photography on Sunday nights, certain times of the year instead of regular Sunday night service at little or no cost with an excellent instructor.) I hope this helps.

Sarah

Living Social has offered deals (1/2 price, $50) on two photography classes in the area recently.
