Turtles on a log at Durant Nature Park

Our relaxing long Memorial Day weekend included a trip up to Durant Nature Park in north Raleigh for a short hike, picnic and playtime.

I don't get up here nearly enough, but every time I do go, I'm reminded how much I love this place. During our visit on Monday, we saw two deer, logs peppered with turtles sunning themselves, little lizards and all kinds of plants. We ate lunch at one of the picnic shelters and my girls spent more than an hour playing at the park's small playground.

I've written about this place before.Click here for that earlier post. And I've vowed we'll be back this summer for another picnic.
Other favorite spots for my family: Fletcher Park in Raleigh and Joyner Park in Wake Forest.

Which leads me to my question today: Where are your favorite picnic spots in the region?
