Help a Mom: Dance classes for kids

Published: 2012-11-20 20:20:00
Updated: 2012-11-20 20:20:00

I'm putting together a database of programs for kids across the region - sports programs, art classes, music lessons and other extracurricular activities.

So I'm asking for your help to compile the list as part of our Help a Mom segment.

Today, I'd love to hear about dance classes for kids. Do you have a favorite studio in the region? Please share so I can include it on the list!

Do you have a favorite? Please share your tips in the comments box below. (If you don't see the comments box below, you'll need to log in or sign up for a WRAL account. You can do that by going to the top of the page and clicking on either "log in" or "register").

Help a Mom features questions from readers every Wednesday. If you have a question that you'd like to ask Go Ask Mom readers, click here to email it to me.

Cary Ballet Conservatory is a great dance studio! Along with an awesome ballet program (for girls and boys interested in both the professional track, but also if they just want to dance for fun!), they have a spectacular jazz, hip hop, and tap programs! The staff are warm and welcoming and truly care about the health and well being of your child. No matter what genre you choose, if you want to be a professional dancer CBC can make you one! But if you just love to dance, they are the best place to learn technique correctly and without injury! Highly recommend! We have been there for 11 years now! Couldn't imagine going anywhere else!

Academy for the Performing Arts in Apex. My daughter has taken classes in cheer, hip-hop, ballet, jazz and acro there, and she's loved them all. And they have an agreement with neighboring businesses (including Karate International and Rock n Roll High School) that provides for a monthly discount if your child or his/her sibling is enrolled at one or more of the facilities. As a side note, my son is interested in taking break dancing classes, and I've been unable to find them anywhere local. Please let us know if you track some down. Thanks!

dance dynamics in wake forest - ms tracey is an energetic teacher and she runs a great program.

Triangle Youth Ballet in Chapel Hill is a warm and caring place to learn to dance and perform! Each class ends spontaneously with hugs. Our child has danced there for almost 9 years. The teachers know how to present excellent instruction in this loving environment. There are also performance opportunities throughout the year. These include full-length ballets (Giselle this fall) and small dances at local events. It is also a relatively small school with smaller numbers of students per class, which adds to the family atmosphere.

Use the community centers. It's cheaper, no registration fees, no annual fees, and its only about a month or month and a half so if your child isn't happy it's easier to try something different . Also there was not a uniform requirement for the dance class I signed my daughter up for.

We've been going to Main Street Dance in Fuquay for almost 4 yrs now (started @ age 3)and we love it there! Very family oriented, geared towards the pre-schoolers, and grooms them into potential life long dancers. All of the staff is wonderful, very nurturing and caring, yet disciplined with the young ones. Tuition is reasonable, costumes/recitals are gorgeous and fun! Highly recommended! Wendy runs a top-notch dance program :-)

Holly Springs School of Dance. Warm loving environment. Many performing opportunities. All dance styles taught. Very sweet and talented teachers and an AMAZING director. Highly recommend!

Main Street Dance Fuquay!!

Wake Forest Academy of Fine Arts is terrific. They have programs starting with a Mom and Me class on up. They added Saturday classes to the schedule this year as well. We have been dancing with them for 9 years. The directors and teachers are wonderful and there is a great family atmosphere.
