Help a Mom: Cars fitting three car seats

Posted May 14, 2013

Here's a random question that I've heard more than once on the playground from moms looking for a new car: Which cars have big enough back seats for three car seats or a combination of booster and car seats?

I have a 2003 Chevy Impala and I can fit 3 car seats (one infant, two convertible) in the back seat. Not all of our car seat combinations fit into the car so you may have to look for the more narrow brands. The trunk has plenty of space for the double stroller and other items.

do any of these moms do any research on their own? Not sure if we have to coddle them all the time but maybe they have never heard of google searches?

Chrysler Pacifica with the third row...I used to drive one and fit half a football team in there......just make sure the transmission is in good shape...

I have grandchildren but still wanted a truck. I have a 2011 4 door Toyota Tacoma. It sits 2 booster seats and the infant seat in wheather facing front or back. There is ample room so little fingers do not get squished. I know you said car, but to not be the bigger Tundra it does work well. You could get the hinged bed cover to store items in the back. It is working great for me and my crowd.

I was able to fit 3 child seats in the back seat of my 2004 Honda Accord. I was able to do an
infant seat, forward facing and a booster combo as well as 2 forward facing and a booster. It was a tight fit but they were all buckled/latched well. Just had to help with the seatbelt of the booster because he couldn't get his hand in to buckle by himself. Good luck!

We are in the process of looking for a new car and have this problem. We need room for an infant car seat, booster seat and a 9 year old. We are leaning towards the Mazda CX-9 because of the third row seat.

I think that an SUV with 3rd row seats will be your best bet. I have an Infiniti JX35 and it has the 3rd row seat, along with the 2nd row being able to move forward and allow the car seat to stay installed. Not sure which car seats you have, but it is great.

I had that exact problem several years ago.....I wanted a small SUV and it had to fit 2 car seats and a booster seat. I measured the car/booster seats and found that the Honda CRV fit them perfectly.
