Help a Mom: Apex preschools

Posted March 5, 2013

The choice on Election Day was clear: Percy the Rooster or Billy the Duck. Preschoolers in Holly Springs and Fuquay-Varina cast ballots for their favorites during "Election Day at Primrose," a mock vote designed to teach civic responsibility.

A mom is looking for a preschool for her one-year-old son when they move from Clayton to Apex.

Here's what she wrote:

We’re moving to Apex in the spring and are looking for a good preschool. I’d welcome your suggestions if you have any recommendations for preschools in the Apex area.

We've tried a number of places and the grove school is amazing in comparison. The rooms are bigger, the kids are outdoors more, and they learn things that I am constantly stunned by. They do community service projects, teach the kids to recycle, teach tons on other countries, and have a really nice diverse population. We started there with my oldest when they opened and were thrilled with they allowed younger kids to attend (when they opened it was 3 and up and now it is 1 and up). The teachers there are like a family and my oldest still loves going there every day to drop off her younger sister!

    Apex Baptist Preschool is awesome!

Out of curiosity I looked up several of these schools to see if there were programs for a 1 year old. Sun Star starts at 2 but looks awesome. APANC starts at 18 months (by 8/31/13). I couldn't easily find the info on the Grove School's web site...it looked like a day care but calls itself a preschool, so I'd have to call for more info.

I think it depends on what you're looking for. You said per-school, not daycare, and some listed below are day cares (Goddard School, Bright Horizons, etc). Programs for 1 year olds are also hard to find. I live in west Cary, near Apex, and we are sending our 13 month old to Cary Presbyterian church in the Fall for one morning (note that we are not Presbyterian). We are also hoping to do two additional mornings at Cary Methodist or Cary Baptist. I know Baptist is opening one more morning for 1 year olds - Thursday - to have a second class, so you could call about that. I also know Genesis Methodist on High House has some openings. These are all 1/2 day programs which is most common for 1 year olds. I found that the day cares who said they did a "preschool" started around 18 months and wanted $700+ for two days. These are more like $85/month for 1 morning per week or $135-$185 for two mornings per week. Most per-school programs are faith-based, but not specific (just Christian

My 2.5 year old daughter attends the Academy for the Performing Arts - Preschool for the Arts in Apex (http://www.apanc.com/). She loves it. They have several types of activities and crafts that help with fine and gross motor skills as well as dance, music, yoga, etc type activites.

The Grove School is on the Apex/Cary border and is wonderful. They have full and half day programs and can do 2, 3 or 5 days a week. www.groveschool.com/cary Their website says "The Grove School is where children get an amazing educational foundation while encouraging a healthy mind, body and planet" and that is absolutely correct in our experience!
