Help a Mom: Affordable gym with pool, childcare

Published: 2013-02-05 20:53:00

Here's a question a mom posed on our Facebook page. Can you help her?

Could anyone tell me some good gym options in the north Raleigh area? We'd like something not crazy pricey, with a pool, and childcare. It would be awesome if it had a toddler sized pool. ( I saw the YMCA has one but membership is $55 a month).

Please share your favorite places in north Raleigh and beyond since we have readers from across the region.

Do you have advice for this mom? Please share your tips in the comments box below. (If you don't see the comments box below, you'll need to log in or sign up for a WRAL account. You can do that by going to the top of the page and clicking on either "log in" or "register").

Snap Fitness in Falls River has pretty low prices, and they have a partnership with RightTime KiDS for $5/hour childcare. Not sure what Snap charges monthly, but it's available 24/7 and had some deals recently. Good luck!

Love Fitness Connection! So many options with all the locations, pools, group exercise classes all day long and plenty of cardio weight equipment to go around. Very affordable too!

The YMCA offers financial assistance to families through the We Build People campaign. Go talk to someone and see if you qualify. In my opinion it is the best deal for your money and I have 4 kids that use the childcare daily!

Thank you for sharing this. I was not aware. I was very interested in joining the Y until I saw their prices. I know they are supposed to be a non-profit, but at what they are charging you could have fooled me.

Fitness connection is 29.95 a month that includes child are for 1 kid. Additional kids are another 10$ a month.

One from my inbox:

I'm replying to your reader looking for a gym. I just joined the Rex Wellness Center in Knightdale and it's wonderful. I know they have a facility in Raleigh and Wakefield that may be accessible for this mom. The childcare is superb (I have 3 kids 4 and under and they love it), the facilities and staff are also excellent. Now this is my experience in Knightdale, but I've heard it is the same at all their centers. I have an individual membership for $49.50 per month and there is a mid-day option for $42 per month. Hope that helps. The pools are fantastic.

Fitness Connection has five...There is one at Celebration at Six Forks (pool), Pleasant Valley, North Hills (pool), RTP, and Cary. The kids area is so so at the Celebration location, but the PV and NHs have much nicer kid areas. They do not have small pools, but you are allowed to bring your children to the pool as long as you are with them. I have never been to the RTP or Cary location.

Try Candler Swim & Gym Club on Jones Franklin Road

Rapid Fitness in North Raleigh is nice and has childcare and a pool, but no toddler pool. The pool is a bit small, but has a current you can turn on to swim against and it also has a hot tub, steam room and sauna. http://www.rapidfitness.com/
