Authorities are working to track down $245,000 in jewelery that was stolen from an elderly Benson woman last week

The Johnston County Sheriff's Office is investigating the incident, which was reported Dec. 20.

The 77-year-old victim told deputies that seven valuables – including a $100,000 watch, a $100,000 bracelet, a $25,000 Rolex and $20,000 earrings – were taken from the trunk of her car, which was parked outside her home.

The woman discovered the theft Dec. 11 but delayed reporting it.

As people get older, if they suffer from dementia in any form, it often makes sense to them to keep their valuables in their cars. My father did it, unbeknown to us. He was more concerned someone would break into the house than the car.

HOW expensive was each item..funny how the dollar amounts are big general numbers. If they were so valuable , she should have pictures and appraisals on each/insurance ...Something is not right

A safety deposit box would have been wiser than her trunk.

Fishy, smeels, funny,,, She just might know who did this and was giving them time to bring it back,, O well the Ins, will cover it all,,, Cash is better anyhow

I wouldn't be too quick to jude this lady. I have a friend who carries her wealth (money and jewelry) around with her everwhere she goes because she has a grown son who is on drugs who lives with her and he believes whatever is hers belongs to him also. She has to do this to protect her valuables. She also has him and his wife living with her to protect the wife and small granddaughter.
