Hebron Christian's Jason Lockhart, son of former Atlanta Brave Keith, fighting for his life after baseball accident

Lockhart is the 15-year-old son of former Atlanta Braves infielder, and current Chicago Cubs scout, Keith Lockhart.

Jason entered his sixth surgery on Wednesday at noon at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta at Scottish Rite, according to his sister Sydney Lockhart's post on Facebook. Doctors were able to locate the lacerated artery caused by the fracture during Tuesday's surgery.

According to Sydney, one of the goals of Wednesday's surgery is to make sure the repaired artery is clotting on its own.

"We are praying and believing that Jason's body is doing what it is supposed to do," she posted Wednesday just before 7 a.m. on Facebook. "His lungs are a bit cloudy from the ventilator, which can happen after being on machines, bringing on a fever. We have said it so many times before, but it certainly is a delicate balance of medicines, doctors, nurses care, respiratory specialists, faith, hope, prayers and support that all come together like a well oiled machine. We are in the very best hands. These last 24 hours have been difficult. Sometimes complications happen. We have learned to break every day into hour-by-hour, minute by minute. We will be happy to have them finally wake our sweet Jason, and begin the next step to recovery."

According to the family's posts on social media, the injury occurred on June 17, when Jason was crossing home plate in the travel game. The same time he touched the plate, the opposing catcher went to throw the ball back to the pitcher but hit Jason instead.

Originally he was just given stitches, but when he went in for an X-ray two days later his nose began to bleed profusely.

He was placed on life support on Friday to help his body rest while doctors attempted to stop the bleeding. Tuesday's surgery was the first time that doctors were able to locate an active bleed according to Sydney's updates on Facebook.

As freshman this past season Joason served as a utility player for the Lions' varsity baseball team. He started at shortstop to open the season and also played second base and outfield.

"I first met him last year right after he graduated eighth grade and he was going to be a freshman. He played on our summer team and he was quiet and he kept to himself. I've noticed he's very mature for his age. He wanted to ask questions, he wanted to learn and he wanted to get better," Hebron baseball coach Ben Drust said. "Around the other guys he gets along with everyone on our team. Our team is very close and that's the great thing about Hebron, it's a very family-like atmosphere.

"I think you can see the family-like atmosphere from all the prayers and support that people from our school, and from our community, have really poured into the Lockhart family. Jason is just an awesome kid and I hate seeing him go through this."
