Go Ask Mom

Healthy Moms: Staying fit at the playground

Spending lots of time at the playground? We're starting a series today with Marybeth Winstead of Healthy Moms. She's sharing simple exercises we can all do while hanging with our kids at the playground.

I know that a lot of Go Ask Mom readers spend a lot of time at local playgrounds. I know this because just about every time I go to a playground, I meet a Go Ask Mom reader!

And the playgrounds are getting busier now that most preschools have wrapped up and many grade schoolers will be celebrating summer vacation in the next week. That can mean more playground time for all of us.

I checked in with Marybeth Winstead of Healthy Moms. For many years, Winstead, a mom herself, has been helping other moms stay in shape and get fit with programs for moms and expecting women.

I asked Winstead if she could offer some exercises that moms could do during our average trip to the playground. The exercises all include your children in the fun - whether you're pushing a swing or playing a game with them.

Our first video with Winstead begins today at the swing set.

Diet and exercise are important for losing weight and staying in shape, Winstead reminds us.

"You have to get your heart pumping to lose weight," she said.

These exercises while you're pushing your child on the swing definitely will do that!

Watch the video to get some simple exercise ideas. Check Healthy Moms' website for more information about its classes and programs. Winstead will be back next Wednesday with another exercise for the playground!
