Pullen Park's egg hunt will start promptly at 11 a.m., Saturday. And if it's anything like last year's hunt, expect a crowd.

If you plan on going, here's what you need to know, according to the city:

  • The egg hunt is for kids ages 10 and under.
  • Parking will be located at the N.C. State University Parking Deck located nearby on Cates Avenue. Park guests may use pedestrian walkways from the deck to access Pullen Park. And I'm told that Peter Cottontail will meet guests as they use the crosswalk with special prizes.
  • Pullen's rides and playground will open at 10 a.m., Saturday. The egg hunt starts exactly at 11 a.m. (and, my guess, will last all of about five minutes). So be there on time!
  • This is a free event. No pre-registration is required.
  • If you're going to hop on Pullen's rides, tickets are $1 for all riders ages 13 months and older. Riders 12 months and younger are free with a paying adult. Riders must be at least 42 inches tall to ride by themselves on most rides. One ticket is required per rider for the carousel, train and kiddie boats.
  • Don't park on Western Boulevard and other roads next to Pullen Park. City codes don't allow it.
And a big reminder: As I reported earlier, the city's egg hunts will be a little healthier this year. Kids won't find candy hidden inside the eggs this year. Instead they'll find pretzels, Goldfish crackers and fruit snacks, along with stickers, tattoos, erasers, bubbles, crayons, finger puppets and bouncy balls. Some of the eggs also are BPA free, have 100 percent renewable content and can be composted after use.
The city will have hunts at nine other parks on Saturday as well. For all the egg hunts in the region, check our Easter events database.
