If you're a pretty regular reader of Go Ask Mom, you'll know I'm a fan of Prairie Ridge Ecostation in west Raleigh.
The site is the outdoor lab and classroom for the N.C. Museum of Natural Sciences and a great place to take kids for programs, weekly storytimes or to hike the trails and play at the nature playground.
I just came across some colorful guides called "prairie prowls" for visitors that explain what's happening there during each of the four seasons.
For instance, you can print out or pull up the guide on your smartphone to learn more about the passion flower, the red-winged blackbird and the button bush in the summer guide. These make for great ways to extend hikes or add a little education into a leisurely visit here.
There's more information on Prairie Ridge's website.
