Michelle Icard, the middle school expert and author, who just happens to be a Charlotte mom, is bringing her conference for middle school girls and their mothers back to Raleigh.

It's set for 1 p.m. to 4 p.m., April 30, at The Glenwood Club (formerly Raleigh Women's Club) at 901 W. Morgan St., Raleigh. The cost is $80 per person. It's designed for rising sixth graders, sixth graders and seventh graders.

The three-hour conference pulls highlights from her fantastic book, "Middle School Makeover," and covers topics such as images of girls and women in the media; friends and frenemies; and social media tips. Moms also will have an opportunity to ask questions while their daughters are in a breakout session about what really happens in middle school today and how to handle tricky parenting moments.

Icard has held the conference in Charlotte for several years. It typically sells out. Her first conference in Raleigh was last fall and it got great reviews from my own friends who went and others.

Here's what one Raleigh mom said after attending the conference with her daughter last fall: "We both loved it and have had some amazing conversations since, all which stemmed from what we learned during our time together that Sunday. I highly recommend any mom and growing girl of middle school age to make time for this! The book is a must-read as well!"

I am hopeful to make this second one with my own middle school daughter. Icard's website has more information and registration details.
