Harris Teeter shareholders file lawsuit

Posted July 18, 2013

Harris Teeter shareholders filed a lawsuit on Tuesday in Mecklenburg County as a result of the sale of the chain to Kroger.  According to an article in the Charlotte Observer, the lawsuit indicates that Harris Teeter "failed to get a high enough premium to its closing price."  The purchase price was a 1.8% premium above the closing price from the day before.

It looks like shareholders have requested that the sale be blocked or that they receive damages.  It will be interesting to see how this plays out. We'll keep you posted as more information becomes available.

They didn't just threaten to sue. They already filed a lawsuit. I hope they stand up and don't let the sale to go through.

Anytime a company talks selling, the share holders always threaten to sue. I am sure it will not mean anything. I just hate HT is being bought by Kroger. I love HT and they have the best customer service, hands down.

...and contrary to their latest marketing campaign messaging, Kroger's prices are just as high in many cases as Harris Teeter, yet they no longer double coupons or allow customers to "stack" store electronic coupons with manufacturer coupons like Harris Teeter does. No comparison, in my mind. There's a reason why there's only one remaining Kroger by where I live. They've always been a Harris Teeter wannabe, but in reality are barely one notch above Food Lion, if you ask me.

I'd like to know what store and why canoegap feels that way. It seems quite contradictory to most people's opinions and surveys.

canoegap, I think many of us feel the same way about Kroger. Their stores are dirty and for the most part their sales associates are rude. You can tell they do not like their jobs.

Harris Teeter is the worst place I have ever shopped. I'm surprised Kroger would buy it at any price.
