— A Harnett County school bus was involved in a wreck on Old U.S. Highway 421 in Lillington on Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

A car rear-ended the No. 179 bus from Lillington-Shawtown Elementary School just before 3:30 p.m. near Bain Street, Harnett County Schools spokeswoman Patricia Lewis said.

Two students complained of minor neck injuries and were transported to Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital, Lewis said.

The other students on board were moved to a new bus.

I don't think that the school system needs to do any of these. I think drivers need to pay attention to what they're doing. Stop messing with things in the car, stop yacking on the cell phone, and do what you're supposed to do while operating a 1 or 2 ton vehicle. More times than none, rear-end crashes happen because the driver in the car is not paying attention to what they should be doing, which is driving!

Perhaps the school boards ought to look at putting reflective chevrons on the rears of buses like fire trucks and ambulances have. That seems to have cut down a little on apparatus wrecks, or at least strikes from behind. Of course, it won't do any good for the front or sides, but...

Maybe some more flashing lights other than the white strobes they have on the roof in back?

usmcasa, you are correct, the location they are showing is about 4 miles from the school but it's not in the L-S school district. The L-S district starts at Peach Farm Rd.

i'm guessing they got the street wrong, wouldn't be the first time

map above is showing it maybe less than 4 miles from the school on the same road as the school

Not to be picky here but Bain St is on HWY 401 not Old HWY 421 and is beside the courthouse. The map shown is not even in the Lillington-Shawtown district.
