Harnett Awaits Tests in 1st-Grader's Death

Posted Updated

LILLINGTON, N.C. — Harnett County authorities said Friday that they are awaiting results of a laboratory test that they expect to tell them if a 6-year-old boy died of meningitis.

John L. Rouse, county health director, said the tests were begun after the boy, who lived in Dunn, died Tuesday in the emergency room at Betsy Johnson Regional Hospital. He was a first-grader at Harnett Primary School.

School officials also were awaiting the test results before deciding if any action was needed.
