Wishing all of you a fantastic 2017 full of love, happiness and super deals!
Do you have a special New Year's menu planned for this weekend? Any collard greens or black eye peas on your dinner table tonight?
We are having garlic shrimp, spaghetti noodles, corn bread and the greens will be spinach salad. Not exactly traditional, but tasty!
Here are some of the reasons we eat the traditional New Year's foods:
Greens, like collards and cabbage, are eaten because they symbolize money and prosperity in the New Year.
Beans are also meant to resemble money and bring prosperity, especially when enjoyed with greens. Lentils and other beans symbolize coins.
Cornbread is enjoyed because it is the color of gold.
Pork is eaten on New Year's because pigs root forward and are rather rotund.
Noodles are supposed to symbolize a long life. Make sure you eat the noodle whole.
Do you have any other New Year's food traditions?
Happy New Year everyone and thank you so very much for reading this blog and for being part of our friendly, frugal community. I appreciate and am thankful each and every one of you!
