Handcuffed suspect on the loose in Wake County

Posted September 26, 2010

— Officers on the ground and in the air searched Sunday for a man who escaped after he was detained on suspicion of breaking into cars near the intersection of Hilltop Needmore and Eden Grove roads in Fuquay-Varina.

Wake County deputies handcuffed Warren Riley Ray Jr., 26, just before 8 a.m. while they investigated a series of reported break-ins, but he ran from them and escaped.

Investigators said while Ray is not considered violent, he does have a criminal history that includes probation violations.

This happened in our neighborhood. Don't know if he was handcuffed front or back, but there were plenty of law enforcement, including a canine and helicopter searching. This is a very rural area with large wooded lots...plenty of places to hide, so not a surprise that it took some time to locate the suspect.

mep, you're right but it's harder to do behind your back. He was handcuffed behind his back wasn't he or did the officers give him a weapon?

A paperclip and a minute of free time can rid you of handcuffs.

I saw this in a movie once. Or maybe it was a television show. This guy will probably blend right into the crowd and never be seen again, well, except for that hairdo.

He must be able to run faster than 1150fps.
