RALEIGH, N.C. — The North Carolina Governor’s Highway Safety Program’s Halloween “Booze It & Lose It” campaign starts Friday with law enforcement officers stepping up patrols and checkpoints across the state.
Last year, officers issued more than 17,500 traffic and criminal citations during the campaign, including 816 DWI arrests.

The Highway Safety Program advises drivers to not drink and drive but to designate a sober driver or find a safer way to get home.
