ROANOKE RAPIDS, N.C. — A Halifax County woman faces charges including forgery and identity theft.

Halifax County sheriff’s deputies said a Roanoke Rapids man reported on Tuesday that his checks had been stolen and cashed at numerous places.

Melissa Kaye Reese, 40, of Weldon, was arrested later that day. She is charged with eight counts of forgery, eight counts of uttering, three counts of obtaining property by false pretense, two counts of identity theft, one count of misdemeanor larceny and one count of possession of stolen property.

Reese was placed under a $15,000 bond. Her next court date is Aug. 18.
