Weldon, N.C. — A judge sentenced a Halifax man to probation for misdemeanor convictions in a hit-and-run that killed a Weldon woman last year.
Jonathan Wilson, 18, was convicted of two counts of misdemeanor hit-and-run with personal injury in connection with the July 14, 2011 wreck that killed Tomekia Richardson, 25, and injured Natasha Pitchford, 22, of Roanoke Rapids.
A judge sentenced Wilson to 90 days in jail but suspended it in place of 10 years' probation.
Wilson said he swerved to miss a bicycle and hit the women who were crossing N.C. Highway 1651. He told authorities that he fled the scene because he was afraid.
