HALIFAX COUNTY, N.C. — A Halifax County woman was the victim of a home invasion Sunday, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies are looking for a suspect described as a black man of medium build in his early 40s. He was wearing dark clothing at the time of the attack.

The woman told deputies that a man came to her door and asked for work, saying he needed money. She refused. She then said he knocked again and, when she answered the door, forced his way inside. The victim said the suspect was armed with a knife and that he hit and slashed at her until she could break away.

She was treated and released at Our Community Hospital, deputies said.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 919-583-4444 or the Halifax County Sheriff's Office at 919-583-8051.
