— A Halifax County woman was the victim of a home invasion Sunday, according to the sheriff's office.

Deputies are looking for a suspect described as a black man of medium build in his early 40s. He was wearing dark clothing at the time of the attack.

The woman told deputies that a man came to her door and asked for work, saying he needed money. She refused. She then said he knocked again and, when she answered the door, forced his way inside. The victim said the suspect was armed with a knife and that he hit and slashed at her until she could break away.

She was treated and released at Our Community Hospital, deputies said.

Anyone with information about the suspect is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 919-583-4444 or the Halifax County Sheriff's Office at 919-583-8051.

What's wrong with what Skywatch said? I agree. She shouldn't have opened the door the second time. As a matter of fact, I'm a male. And many times, I don't open the door the first time if I don't know them. The way I see it, they can leave a note or call and leave a message on the answering machine. As I also don't answer my phone unless I recognize the number. If its important, they will leave a message.

Thank you very much, deathrow. :)

Skywatch, you have a bad attitude. Lord help you.

You'll have to excuse my allegedly bad ...but in only trying-to-be-helpful attitude. :)

Yes, the Lord does help me daily, thank you. :)

sad, what is this world coming to! If you don't know them or they haven't call to say they are coming and you are home alone ....... don't answer the door!!! Call 911 if they persist on you opening the door. Times are to BAD .... if you must answer .... don't open the door answer them from inside. Call the POLICE people especially the elderly.

Skywatch -- What may seem obvious to most people may not have been to this woman. No information was given about her age, whether she was sick, mentally impaired, etc. What he did was his fault alone.
