Halifax County man charged with attempted rape, indecent liberties

— A 35-year-old Roanoke Rapids man was arrested Saturday morning and charged with sexual crimes involving a minor.

Russell William Hathaway Jr. is charged with indecent liberties with a child and attempted first-degree rape.

Investigators say Hathaway Jr. knew the juvenile victim. He was taken into custody without incident and is in the Halifax County jail under a $100,000 bond.

Hathaway Jr. is scheduled to make a first court appearance on Oct. 21.

    Never abused personally, but have seen the mental issues and nightmares it has caused people for their entire adult lives. They are never the same. You don't mess with a child, PERIOD. Now, if this is just a case of a child trying to work the system against the adult, that is totally another story, but most victims know their abuser.
