— Halifax Sheriff's deputies arrested a man Wednesday night following an attempted home invasion that left another suspect dead.

Deputies responded to a call about a home invasion on Short Street in Littleton just after 8 p.m. When they arrived at the home, they found one suspect shot and another man being held down by the owner of the home.

Two other men ran from the house before deputies arrived.

Sheriff's deputies arrested Kayman Northington and charged him with first-degree burglary, conspiracy to commit robbery with a dangerous weapon and carry a concealed weapon.

Northington was in the Halifax County Jail Thursday under $200,000 bond. His first court appearance is Feb. 1, 2012.

Investigators are still looking into the crime in an attempt to identify others involved.

Anyone with information about this case is asked to call the Halifax County Sheriff's Office at 252-583-8051 or Halifax County Crime Stoppers at 252-583-4444.

The reason I carry a gun is because I can't throw a rock 1250 feet per second.

Carry Conceal LEO instructors told us that the majority of times it is within 2-3 feet, 2-3 seconds and 2-3 shots. I always carry mine for that reason alone, especially here at Christmas. You just never know anymore. One of my friends that is a retired LEO told me he carries more now than when he was on the force. Lots of evil people out there that do not care

Another report states that this invasion was "drug related". I normally don't have my weapons(to return fire)withing a few seconds grasp, at 8pm at night- so it sounds like the circumstances around the homeowner is in question, as well...though he has the same right to defend against a home invasion, just like the rest of us. The area this happened is known for drug activity. Never stated they found drugs in the house. I think there is more to this story.

I'd like to buy this homeowner a fresh box of bullets. Congratulations on the good shot!

Great work homeowner! Shame you couldn't get off more shots and send more of these felons to their graves! This is why you need to be armed in your home, know how to use your guns safely, know the law about what to do when they come breaking into your home. All in all a good outcome. Hope they catch the other two soon and charge them with murder during the course of a felony - perhaps get the death penalty! Glad everyone is safe!

My idea of gun control is being able to hit your target!

Better leave it alone then, and practice more before you bring a loaded gun in your home. Be safe.

Praying that the courts will give this man 20 years. Tired of stories like this. A person should feel safe in their own home.

rayh, you'd think with a head like that he would be a better target.
