A cold front dropping down from Canada should swing into the Triangle by Tuesay night, bringing cooler temperatures with it.
“Temperatures are really going to take a plunge later in the week,” WRAL meteorologist Elizabeth Gardner said. “It’s going to feel nice.”
The change begins Wednesday, when the forecast high falls to 83 degrees. The high on Thursday and Friday will be 78 degrees.
Thursday will mark a sharp contrast from the normal high of 88 degrees. The record is 99 degrees.
But the cool front comes at a price. The chance of severe weather will increase when the cooler air collides with warmer, humid air. There is an elevated risk of severe weather and damaging winds on Tuesday night into early Wednesday. The chance of rain stays at 40 percent through the rest of the week.
There won’t be much relief from the relentless humidity, however. The dew point will remain in the 60s and 70s for much of the week.
