I was born and raised in the 9th street area and it was pretty much common sense that you had no business in or around the East side. I tell my friends that once back in the day, I walked with a friend from the Driver St. area all the way to Northgate over around Gregson St. and after we spent our money on new Converse tennis shoes at the old Durham Sporting Goods, we missed the bus at Trinity and walked down to the old YMCA on Trinity to play some basketball before catching a ride home. I challenge anybody to try and do that now. *lol*

I know the Police are doing what they can to make and keep Durham safe..seems like most of the problems are still in East Durham..soooo glad i moved away from that section..I know crime is everywhere..but that section is the worst in Durham..and you do NOT need to be going thru there at night.

I have lived in Durham most of my life, it just seems to get worse. An old friend of mine who was a police officer called Durham the armpit of NC. Not long ago even the police chief's car was hit by a bullet.

mrr03 - maybe in the parts that border RTP.

For the few of us that have lived here out entire lives it is common knowledge that Durham is to be avoided at all costs. It's a shame I have to go through part of it in order to get to work. Maybe I should invest in some bullet proof glass.

yes and the chapel hill city streets are so safe you can't go down them at 2pm in the afternoon without fear of being abducted. Let's face it, crime is everywhere.

I am so glad no one was hurt. Hopefully the police will catch these criminals and get them off the streets.
