— A Guilford County woman who went into labor just before she was set to graduate saw commencement come to her.

Juliet Smith was scheduled to graduate from Guilford College on Saturday, but she started going into labor late Friday night. She gave birth and was still in the hospital while her classmates got their diplomas.

But she still got to hear "Pomp and Circumstance." A Guilford County professor played the tuba as she was awarded her degree in a waiting room at the hospital. Her new baby boy, Milo, slept through the short ceremony.

Agreed. This was an awesome time for her and I'm glad that Guilford contributed to it.

What a kind and rare gesture! Not many colleges or universities would do this. It says a lot about the caliber of Guilford College.
