Group wants closer look at NC company's torture ties

A group called "Stop Torture Now" gathered Friday morning at the State Capitol to protest actions described in a recent report on the CIA and to call for state leaders to investigate a North Carolina company's role in torture.

Members of the group are asking Gov. Pat McCrory and Attorney General Roy Cooper to look into the reports that Aero Contractors, based in Smithfield, conducts clandestine transfers of terror suspects to secret locations without due process.

"In light of what we know from the Senate Intelligence Committee report itself, we extend our call to Gov. McCrory, it was wrong for our country to engage in torture, it was wrong for our state to be an enabler of these unspeakable acts," said Rev. George Reed, executive director of the NC Council of Churches.
