BELHAVEN, N.C. — A nonprofit group that owns a closed hospital in Beaufort County has turned down two offers to buy the facility.
Multiple media outlets reported that Pantego Creek LLC has rejected the town of Belhaven's offer to buy the hospital for $500,000.
Belhaven Mayor Adam O'Neal said the Pungo Medical Center made the offer last week in an attempt to prevent the demolition of the building.
Vidant Medical of Greenville closed the Pungo District Hospital in 2014 and Pantego Creek LLC became owner of the property.
Pantego Creek attorney Arey Grady III said the group rejected the two officers because the property is more valuable that the amounts offered. Grady says plans to demolish the buildings will continue. Asbestos is being removed from the building now.
