Group plans hike for girls with autism

Posted March 9

My Circle of Girls, a great local program for girls with autism, will host a nature hike from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m., March 19, at West Point on the Eno in Durham.

The Durham Parks and Recreation Department will lead the program, which will include a scavenger hunt and end with an activity where the kids can create art from the items they've collected during the hike. Girls will be paired by age for the activities.

Registration is required. To register, email the girl's name, age, and parents' names to mycircleofgirls@gmail.com. The deadline to register is Thursday, March 17. Once you register, you'll get more information about all of the activities.

I've written about Dawn Dudley, the great Durham mom behind this group, before. Dudley created the group so her daughter, who has autism, could meet and become friends with other girls like her. The group's website and Facebook page has more information.
