Posted August 24, 2011

— A Greenville man faces charges that he tried to kill his mother Tuesday evening, a little more than a year after he finished a prison sentence on similar charges.

Police said that Eltwoyne Terrell Carter, 27, stabbed his mother near 458 Burrington Road around 7:20 p.m. His mother's injuries were believed to be non-life-threatening, and she was taken to a local hospital.

Investigators didn't comment on a motive in the stabbing.

Carter was arrested early Wednesday and charged with attempted first-degree murder and assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill inflicting serious injury. He was placed in the Pitt County Detention Center.

Carter finished a 4½-year prison sentence in April 2010 for convictions for assault with a deadly weapon inflicting serious injury, communicating threats and two counts of possession of a firearm by a felon, according to state Department of Correction records.

He also served a total of 2½ years for a conviction for assault inflicting serious injury in 1999 and common-law robbery in 2002.

Third strike or three times the charm? Someone should inflict serious injury on this "child"...and if I was his Mom, that would be me doing the inflicting!!!!

    That poor woman.

I can't imagine someone doing that to their mother, either of their parents actually.

Praying justice does the right thing this time. With this guy's record, he should never have been out of prison.

rednek....I wonder why they keep giving this young man chance after chance to kill his mother. He tried once; and a prison sentencing didn't deter him. Now he his tried again. What will it take to convince the justice system that this man is very dangerous? Obviously, he has a lot of deep setted problems, to even try to kill his own mother. (He is 'very much' old enough to know better, and to get help on his own.)Don't wait until he actually gets a murder charge.....stop him now.

I know that's her son, and obviously she loves him; but she also needs to get some professional help. Because she 'is' going to let him back into her life, and this time she might not be so lucky to live through another attack from him.

Why is this man still living, breathing, and walking the streets? I know he is in jail now, but the courts will slap him on the wrist and let him out AGAIN. Next time he might kill his mother. If he is determined to be guilty of this crime the second time, EXECUTE him and solve the problem.

Lock him up and throw away the key. He's proven he can't be rehibilated and will continue this behavior until he kills someone.

"You can blame liberals for abusing the constitution and the notion of "cruel and unusual punishment" for this.

Yesterday I washed my car. Than a bird pooed on it. I suppose you'll blame that on liberals too? Believe it or not, liberals are not responsible for every single thing in the world that you don't like.

You can blame liberals for abusing the constitution and the notion of "cruel and unusual punishment" for this. Locking up those, who pose serious threats to others, for long periods of time isn't cruel, it's necessary.

Why was he released w that record after so little time spent? PLS DO WHATEVER IT TAKES TO KEEP THESE PEOPLE LOCKED UP! I can deal with fewer roads or other tax expenditures if I can feel safer in some sense.

He's had more than three strikes...lock him up and throw away the key before he actually kills someone.
