State Fair, Food Lion pair up for admission deal

— Going to the N.C. State Fair in October? Get in on October 23 for only $2.95 per person with the annual canned food drive and the sale going on this week at Food Lion!

Here's the deal:

October 23 is Food Lion Hunger Relief Day at the N.C. State Fair.  If you bring five cans of Food Lion brand food that day, you will receive one free admission ticket. State Fair coverage on 10-26 & 10-27 2013 NC State Fair tickets go on sale Aug. 1

This week, through Aug. 5, select Food Lion canned veggies are only 59 cents each. If you buy five cans, the total is $2.95 plus tax. Save the cans of food until Oct. 23 and donate them to the Food Lion Hunger Relief Day at the Fair.  You will get a great price on admission and do a wonderful thing to help out some folks who are struggling.

The regular price of the Advanced Adult Tickets is $7, so only paying $2.95 is a fabulous deal! Remember that folks who are 65 or older and kids who are 5 or under get in to the fair for free every day.  As we get closer to the fair, I will post more suggestions on how to save money.

From the State Fair website: "Food Lion Hunger Relief Day at the Fair is one of the largest one-day canned-food drives in the state, held each year to benefit the Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. In the 17-year history of the event, more than 2 million pounds of food have been donated by fairgoers."

Cheapest way to go to the fair - get a group discount. Takes one person to do some extra work but you get the lowest possible price on tickets. And I applaud Food Lion for the food drive every year at the fair but I do avoid that day as it tends to be the busiest!

Food Lion has been a good company for North Carolina for many years.

Sunshine, Yep - they do offer the free ticket for a food donation every year. Glad you are aware of the promotion, but not everyone may know it is offered. For those not familiar with it, hopefully this post will help them save some money. This is a very good week to pick up those cans to make the tickets super cheap.

It is a great idea but seems like it is a repeat of previous years nothing new here.

And for the frugal-minded who enjoy the midway rides, PRE-PURCHASE your ride tickets. Do NOT wait to buy them at the fairgrounds when it will cost you double!

And depending on how much you spend in tickets, you can get a FREE admission ticket too. (Spend $50-100, get 1 free ticket. 5 Ride Sheets is $50...so depending on the number in your family, could save some money there too.)

Many years, I have bought 10 sheets, and then just one extra admission for my child. I get two free tickets. THEN, we typically use half the ride sheets one day, and come back for the Food Lion day with the other half. So we get two full days to explore and enjoy, without breaking the bank.
