It happened Monday in the weight room at Grand Ledge High School.

Everson Guild, an incoming freshman, was given CPR and first aid through an AED by coaches at the scene but was then pronounced dead at a nearby hospital.

Counselors will be on hand Tuesday for students and staff.

A statement by Dr. Brian Metcalf the Grand Ledge Superintendent says, "we lost an exceptional young man who was at the beginning of what promised to be an exciting high school career."
