WASHINGTON — Rep. George Holding, a freshman Republican representing North Carolina's 13th Congressional District, is getting 15 minutes of Internet fame for taking a brief nap.
C-Span, the channel that broadcasts all congressional sessions, caught Holding on the nod as Rep. Louie Gohmert delivered a speech. Soon, the clip was on BuzzFeed, which suggested the brief doze was an apt metaphor for the government shutdown. The clip then rocketed around to television and newspaper websites.
As the New York Daily News summarized, "The North Carolina Representative suffered from severe boredom during Rep. Louie Gohmert's speech, dozing off to catch up on some sleep as he presided over the House session late Thursday."

When asked about the impromptu nap, Holding said, "It's been a long week. It would have been wiser to stay on my feet."
