RALEIGH, N.C. — The three Republicans vying to represent North Carolina's 2nd Congressional District have agreed to participate in a May 19 debate hosted and broadcast live by WRAL News.

Three-term Congresswoman Renee Ellmers faces challenges from 13th District Congressman George Holding and Cary obstetrician Dr. Greg Brannon in the June 7 primary. Holding chose to run in the 2nd District after state lawmakers redrew congressional voting maps under a federal court order and shifted the 13th District from the Triangle to west of Greensboro. Brannon has twice run for U.S. Senate, losing in the 2014 primary to Sen. Thom Tillis and in March to Sen. Richard Burr.

WRAL News anchor David Crabtree will moderate the hour-long debate, which will air live at 7 p.m. on WRAL and WRAL.com.

Five Democrats are running for their party's nomination in the 2nd District: Elton Brewington, Steven Hight, John McNeil, Ron Sanyal and Jane Watson.

The district includes all of Harnett, Franklin and Nash counties and parts of Wake, Johnston and Wilson counties.

The winners of the two primaries will face each other in the November general election.
