Welcome to the group for anything to do with crocheting! This afghan is my pride and joy. I thoroughly enjoyed making it and it turned out beautifully!

Does anyone else have a "pride and joy" that they've crocheted?

about crocheters of nc

This group is for anyone who enjoys picking up a hook and a skein of yarn and creating something. Whether by following a pattern, or by creating their own patterns. It is also for people who want to ask questions about crocheting or about a pattern, or are searching for a pattern or would like to swap patterns or ideas. Anything at all about crocheting, whether you're new to it or like me, have been doing it for many years.

Hi Crocus, I have another question for you. You know I was able to make you an editor. But now when I click on Manage Group Members and put somebody's name in where it says Search GOLO Members it comes back saying No Results. What am I doing wrong?

Are you trying to put everyone as an editor? I'm confused. :) If you want I can call you if you email me your phone number. (and I promise not to put it on any restroom walls) Or I could email you my # if you would prefer. It might be easier to figure it out on the phone.

I am a self taught crocheter. I currently just do baby blankets and hats. I am also taking up the fine art of spinning my own yarn. I enjoy meeting people that have the same interests.

Welcome Fluffy!!! :D

Spinning seems like it would be fun. You will have to tell me more about it. Where do you get the wool to do that? Are you dying it yourself? (I've been kind of fascinated by the whole koolaid dying thing) And I guess if you make your own, it felts right?

Going to go check out Yarn Birds right now. I must remember that I just spent an ungodly amount of money on new brakes and tires so that I can resist all the pretty yarns!

I checked out Yarn Birds. It was a really nice store. Well laid out, airy and very well lit. There were several places to sit and crochet or study a pattern book if you were so inclined. (lots of folks in there were doing just that--one lady from Rocky Mount came down for a party tonight and came early just to hang out at the store and knit)

The people in there were very friendly and helpful. I checked out all the yarn and they have a great collection. That being said, none of it was inexpensive yarn. This is the kind of place you go for that super special project if you are thrifty like me. I feel in love with a few yarns that I will maybe go back and buy to make a felted purse (after I find a pattern that I like)

They do crochet classes and they range from basic to pretty intricate. (check their website for the list)

Incidentally they have a pretty nice collection of buttons. I bought two really cute flower ones for my niece's purse.

I will definitely go back.

Right now I am buying predyed wool until I get the spinning down first. I buy my wool from Etsy or Paradise Fibers. I plan on learning how to dye it myself, not really with kool-aid (which is pretty cool) but with a washfast dye. I also am hoping to get a spinning wheel soon. If I am good enough at it I might start selling some of my creations. It's very relaxing. Oh, and it does felt, but it depends on the type of wool you get. Anything that says superwash doesn't felt, at least that is my understanding.

I love Etsy. I have to bar myself from going there as I would spend a bazillion dollars on all that pretty wool. The hand painted stuff is so pretty but I just can't invest in that kind of stuff right now as I'm still learning to crochet and reading patterns. So I'll keep practicing on my Red Heart stuff. I've been looking for a cute cardigan pattern. It'll be my first attempt at clothing. Up to now, I've been doing afghans, cat toys, bags, scarves/hats etc.

That's awesome Crocus. I am still learning how to crochet and trying to teach myself how to knit. The knitting isn't going so well. I mostly make baby afghans for my friends, but may start selling them to make a little extra money. I am so addicted to Etsy, if I had the money I would buy all the neat clothing and knick knacks to have to move into a different house for storage. But I love spinning yarn. It plays into my instant gratification for a project. And it is so great to feel that wool in your hands and to see it turn into something people can use. And you can do so much with it. I post some of my afghans on my myspace page, I am working on one now for a friend that I will post when it's completed. You should check out the Raleigh Farmers Market, I bought mill end red heart yarn for super cheap. I think I have 9 skeins or 12 skeins that were $20. I think. I just remember it being super cheap for a lot of yarn.

Oh! I am going to the Farmers Market tomorrow! I will definitely check that out. :) I've been on a market bag kick. I made one for my friend already. I'm going to make a few for myself and then I'll probably make one for my downstairs neighbor who is very big on recycling. I feel like she will use it. I debated making one for my mother but she would never use it.

Those things look hard to make. I would love to have the patience right now to do it. They are pretty neat. I would like to get to where I don't have to look at my work or count all the time to know that I'm doing it right. I'm still new to it. I really want to make myself some fingerless gloves for the winter.

The bags are insanely easy. It is just 2 cd sized circles and then a 1 triple/chain 1/1triple in a stich, skip next stitch and 1 triple, ch 1, 1 triple in next stitch. The makes the V shape net. I make them and watch Nip/Tuck. :D

I found this pattern and am thinking of making it for winter. (I hate being cold in the office)

Crocus, those are nice. I might make me a pair too. The ones I was going to make are a corset style, but those look super comfy. Did you find they guy at the fair that sells the yarn?

One of ya'll need to make me a step by step cd! I wish I could do that!

http://www.crochetpatterncentral.com/patterns/bubbles_baby_blanket.php..This is a great pattern..very easy..just single and double crocheting. I'm gonna be a great grandma so I'm crocheting away!!

"Heya, Blowup! I am posting some links etc. I really like Teresa's videos and blog. She does the videos on youtube and she explains them really slowly and you can really see what is going on. :) Check out her blog and her videos to see if they help any."

Thank you Crocus. =) Hopefully I will have plenty of time after tomorrow to view the videos and maybe practice.

Have y'all signed up for Ravelry.com yet?

If not, I am telling you that it is the best crochet/knit site out there. There are tons of patterns, forums, groups etc. I met really nice lady from there who helped me figure out the daisy pattern that I was stuck on.

Woooah....check this out!!

It is knit (ugh!) but what an amazing shawl. I never thought about doing something and then painting the dye on like this.

http://obsessive-compulsiveknitter.blogspot.com/search/label/pretty%20as%20a%20peac ock%20shawl (you will need to remove the space between peac and ock in the URL as the censor doesn't like pretty birds apparently)

LOL!!!

Morbid crochet!

ROFL.

Wow Crocus, I LOVE the peac ock! Time for me to start watching those videos and learning more so I can get good enough to try this. =) Thanks!

I love the blanket. I have started making purses with Trim, decorations and such. I am hoping to sell them at craft stores and such. I would love to know more than the basic few stitches like single, double, mile a minute. I wanted to try squares like that but never could get it to look right. Do you make the individual squares and then crotchet them together?

Welcome Genie! :)

There are a few ways to join squares. You can whip stitch them, or crochet them together. If you single crochet though the back loop it makes it smoother.

Check here. :)

I'm too lazy to post these in the crochet group as I already posted them in my gallery.

But I posted some new projects in there.

Crocus, you are so clever! These are great.

Yeah, my Bonnie likes to "help" me. I have to keep an eagle eye on her if I step away from the afghan or she will chew my yarn into pieces.

Susan

That is Dexter too.

Right now, I've been trying to lay out granny squares to make a bag. Everytime I start setting them out to find a nice pattern along comes Dexter to sit on them. The final straw was last night--I moved Dexter 4 times. Finally locked him out on the patio and then Savannah slides right in and lays her big dog body right on it all.
