Thanks, Skywatch. That is actually much more reasonable than I was expecting. I was down in Atlanta to see some Braves vs. Red Sox games a couple of years ago (got to see Schilling pitch, which was awesome) and their restaurant prices were unreal. I think it was $10 for a BBQ sandwhich - with no sides or nothin.

You're welcome, DS. :)

I went to Atlanta in June 1993 and saw a Braves vs. Mets game. :)Seems often that food prices at ballparks are $spiked$.

I am crossing my fingers that Griffey Jr. never used - I feel like he was the last great "genuine" player of the pre-steroid/steroid era.

Has there been talk/'rumor' that Griffey Jr. been using steroids? :(

"Has there been talk/'rumor' that Griffey Jr. been using steroids? :("

No, none that I have heard. I have just come to suspect everyone from that era and I hope I never find out Griffey used. He was so much fun to watch in the 90's - a baseball renaissance man. He hit for average, power, drove in runs, and won gold gloves while making spectacular defensive plays. Then he caught a bad break or three while getting injured on hustle plays and it really hurt what should have been IMO the greatest baseball career ever. His numbers would have put Bonds to shame if he could have stayed healthy.

I always admired how hard he worked to get back to playing and the class with which he always conducted himself. It seemed he really respected the game. I was just saying that it would break my spirit a little if it came out he used steroids.

Sadly the Sosa situation doesn't surprise me at all. During that great homerun race between him and McGwire he looked so abnormal. Sosa and McGwire both were on steroids in my opinion. You could just look at them and tell. I've got a McGwire and Sosa rookie baseball card and they were actually thin. I know players fill out when they get older but come on! Barry Bonds was the same way when he played in Pittsburg, very slender with no muscle. The whole steroid era makes me sick because I love the game so much and have since I was a little boy. The record books have become an absolute joke! All the leaders are steroid users; Clemens, Bonds, Sosa, McGwire, eventually A Rod. At least MLB is doing something about the steroid issue now.

I hear ya and I agree with ya, bro.

Guru ~ I just heard that Manny will begin a minor league assignment next week in California. What do you know about this?

I think his suspension is over in early July. For the sake of my fantasy baseball team I will be glad when he gets back:)

I read where Manny dropped to like 6th or 7th in All-Star voting over the last week or two.

I think come HOF time, you are going to see a severe backlash against these steroid abusers. Although it didn't sound like Manny was on anabolic or HGH - I wonder if Manny even knew he was doing anything wrong? (he is a little spacey, you have to admit!)

Yes Stonecutter he is a space cadet...One of the great hitters of all time though. I don't think guys like Bonds, Sosa, and Clemens will ever get in. They should just open a wing in Cooperstown saying "Steroid Era HOF". Back when Clemens was with the Bosox he was one of my favorites. He really messed up like all the other guys...

Got to get you in my fantasy baseball league next year, it's awesome...I am in first place right now. Got a good team, Teixerra, Youkalis, Jose Reyes-injured though, Ramirez, Ibanez, Ichiro, Greinke, Sabathia, Carpenter, Papelbon to name some of my players...

Sounds like fun. Count me in!

Great game, White Sox!

Orioles take 2 of 3 from Atlanta, 2 of 3 from the Mets, and sweep the Phillies!

We get to beat up on the NL Least teams Florida and Washington this week before an assured home series smack-down at the hand of the BoSox next week.

Let's go O's! Maybe try to bring some winning mojo to Camden Yards!

Hey Stonecutter congrats to the O's! A pretty darn good offensive team. The young catcher Matt Weiters hit his first HR the other night. He is going to be something! Did you know that O's 2nd baseman Brian Roberts played his high school ball in Chapel Hill? At the time his father was the baseball coach at UNC.

Guru, I knew that he played college ball at Chapel Hill, did not know about high school ball. I hope we don't end up trading him - we tried to send him to the cubs last year but the deal fell through. He is a solid leadoff hitter and pretty good defensively. Most importantly, he is a great leader in the clubhouse.

I am really looking forward to how Weiters does in the second half of the season - he's not hitting so well right now, but everyone says he will come around.

What do you guys think about the DH, interleague play, domed stadiums, and artificial turf? I consider myself to be an old school type of baseball fan and I don't like any of these. I think the DH takes so much strategy out of the game. To let the pitcher hit or pinch hit for him is a great part of the game that you don't have in the American League. I might be in the minority but I have never cared for interleague play. I don't want the leagues to meet until the World Series. Domed stadiums I detest. Baseball is supposed to be played in the outdoors and the rain. Baseball is suppose to be on grass not turf. Just my opinions what do you think?

Well, I don't like the DH - I wish that rule would go. I like interleague play but I am sick of it being dominated by Mets/Yankees and Cubs/White Sox - but my issue with that is due more to ESPN than to MLB. The primary reason I like it is actually because it forces AL teams to play using the "real" baseball rules when in NL parks. I don't have issue with domed stadiums that have retractable roofs - if it is raining, I say close the roof and let them finish the game. But if it is just hot outside, I say too bad - leave it open. It's part of the game. I'm not sure if teams still use artificial turf, at least not McDonald's playground stuff that they used to use. From what I understand, the artificial stuff is very similar to real grass - so I'm OK with it.

LOL, I used to think I was old school about baseball but after looking at all of this I guess not! Oh well, still hate the All-Star homefield rule.

Hey BoSox fans, how'd you like that 9 run comeback from my O's last night?! :)

(ignoring the fact that we were losing 10-1 which in itself is awful in any game - comeback or not)

...alright then, just came out for a little sunlight. I'll be heading back to the cellar now. :)

I knew we would hear from you today stonecutter! You have every right to be proud of that comeback...9 runs!!! Have a good 4th of July weekend! Ready for fantasy football? I know I am...

LOL, I don't get many chances to brag (especially against the Red Sox, who have owned us for about 5 years) so I figured I'd take this opportunity. :)

Definitely looking forward to the upcoming FF season. Should be an interesting year - there is a lot of uncertainty at WR for the #2 WRs. Brandon Marshall, Chad Ochocinco, TJ Houshmazada(sp?), Joey Galloway, several others... Will they put up numbers this year?

You have a great weekend too. I'm heading east to the OBX for a couple of days - fun in the sun!

Go Red Sox! I know; I am a turncoat...

Welcome to Red Sox nation Rose! Glad you saw the light!

Shaping up to be a very close race in just about every division. The only team that looks to run away are the Dodgers in the National League West. The only team in the NL Central out as of right now are the Pirates. In the NL East only Washington is done though the Mets have not waited until the end of the season to do their choke aspect and at times played like they were a single A team. Face it they suck! Red Sox and Yanks will battle for the rest of the year in the AL East. The Tigers, Twins and White Sox should be a great 2nd half race in the AL Central. Only Oakland is out in the AL West.

What does everyone think about the A.L. All-Star selections? American League Starters: c-Mauer,1b-Teixeira,2b-Pedroia 3b-Longoria,ss-Jeter, OF-Bay,Suzki,Hamilton...I have no arguments except for Hamilton. Josh has only played 35 games and Torii Hunter of the Angels is having a great season and should be the starter ahead of Hamilton. I am a Red Sox and Pedroia fan but a strong argument could be made for Aaron Hill of Toronto to be the starter at second base. Also Kinsler is having a better year than Pedroia. The A.L. reserves are c-Martinez, 1b-Morneau and Youkilis, 2b-Hill, 3b-Young, OF-Crawford, Granderson, Hunter, Jones, and Zobrist. I would have taken Adam Lind over Zobrist here but I don't have any other problems. The A.L. pitchers are Bailey, Beckett, Buehrle, Fuentes, Greinke, Halladay, Hernandez, Jackson, Nathan, Papelbon, Rivera, Verlander, and Wakefield...Good selections here, Wakefield has 10 wins but his ERA is in the mid 4's. Kevin Millwood is a guy who should be there.

N.L. All-Star selections:c-Molina, 1b-Pujols, 2b-Utley, 3b-Wright, ss-Ramirez, OF-Beltran, Braun, Ibanez...No problems here, Ibanez was arguably the NL MVP in first half along with Pujols. Beltran and Ibanez are on DL right now. Ibanez should be able to play in game. N.L. reserves: McCann, Fielder, Gonzalez, Howard, Hudson, Sanchez, Tejada, Zimmerman, Hawpe, Pence, and Upton. Reynolds of Arizona is having great year and should have been selected. The N.L. pitching staff: Bell, Billingsley, Broxton, Cain, Cordero, Franklin, Haren, Johnson, Lilly, Lincecum, Marquis, Rodriguez, and Santana. Overall a good job with all the N.L. selections.

Welcome to Red Sox nation Rose! Glad you saw the light! LOL, Welcome to Red Sox Nation Rose :)

Looking at those rosters, I don't think there is a better pitcher out there right now than Tim Lincecum from SF. Did you know he is only going to make 650K this year? He is due for a huge payday.

Can't wait to watch the all-star game! I hope Pujols has a big night. (and Adam Jones too!)

What's up Stonecutter? Hope your trip went well. Yes Lincecum will become a very wealthy man when his contract runs out. This is only his 3rd season I believe. He won the Cy Young award last year. I doubt if the Giants can pay him what he will get offered by other teams. Wish my Red Sox could get him! I always enjoy the MLB all star game. I will never forget as a kid watching the all star game and the collision at home plate between Pete Rose and Ray Fosse. I have already been in some fantasy football drafts. RB and WR positions are pretty deep this year. Everyone is going after Drew Brees as their QB. I don't blame them I had him last year in 3 Yahoo leagues and won 2 and finished 2nd in the other...Can't wait for the real draft, my league lol, in a couple of weeks. Talk to you later.

DID YOU JUST SEE THAT?!?!?!?!?

What a play. Loretta hit to first and it nicks the bag, flying up in the air toward the mound. Murphy steps off first, fields the ball, and gives it a behind-the-back, no-look shovel to Parnell who has Loretta out by maybe an inch.

WOW!

Yes Steve I saw that play, pretty sweet!!!

Ryan Howard won the MVP in 2006, Rollins in 2007...I think Chase Utley will eventually win one but Pujols is the front runner right now. There is not a second baseman in baseball I would take over Utley.

I forgot about the Phillies Raul Ibanez...What a season he was having before going on the D.L. He is suppose to be coming back soon. He has always put up good numbers but playing for the Mariners all those years he didn't get a lot of attention. I predicted when he signed with the Phillies he would do well in that lineup.

What's up DBG - definitely looking forward to the draft. I'm not sold on Brees. I'm sure he'll have a good year, but I feel like last season may have been one of those Marino '84 seasons. I think the league wide question mark will be how Brady comes back. With that offense, he may very well destroy every passing mark ever set this season - including Marino's 5000+ yards.

As far as Ibanez goes, there is no doubt he is having a great season. I would put him a close second in the MVP race to Pujols. And I hate to give it to someone who only plays every fifth day (on a losing team no less) but I still think Lincecum has to be at least considered at this point.

BTW, I love how Ibanez responded to the steroid allegations earlier this year. He basically told the people to test him and if it came back positive he would give back every dollar he earned. Then he called out the reporter who suggested it and asked him if he would back it up by wagering HIS job. Beautiful!

Seriously...how do you select the oldest first time All-Star since Satchel Paige and not play him for at least one out in the game?

I'd be pretty upset if I were a BoSox fan. Heck, I'm a little PO'd anyway. I have a lot of respect for Joe Maddon, but he was wrong on this one. You have to find a way to get Wakefield in that game. I don't care if you have to use him as a pinch-hitter - get him on the scorecard!

I agree, he should have pitched. As long as he has been at it...Maddon made sure all his players made the team...I think Ian Kinsler should have made the team over Pena...But at least AL won:)

My Bosox are in a slump! Yankees in first place. Think Boston could use Manny's bat now? Hopefully we will get hot soon! Young phenom Buchholz did not look good last night...

Any predictions where Halliday will end up?

Mark Buehrle of the White Sox pitched a perfect game today against the Tampa Rays. It was only the 18th perfect game in Major League history.

What a time to not be a White Sox fan... :(

Halliday - gotta think Philly, Los Angeles, probably not St. Louis now that they got Holliday, and of course NYY and Bos always have a shot this time in the year. I can't imagine why Toronto would trade him in-division though.

If Philly gets him they will be unstoppable...That lineup is awesome.

Yeah, could you imagine Halliday and Hamels opening up a series? That might be the only way that anyone can stop LA though. I heard this weekend that Toronto is not impressed with what people are offering for Halliday.

Cliff Lee to the Phillies. Does he add as much as Halliday? I gotta say no. Still lets Philly pull even with LA as the NL favs for the world series IMO.

Lee is no Halliday but is a quality starter. Great pick up for Philly...They needed some pitching help. Trade deadline ends this afternoon should be interesting. Have heard rumours of Victor Martinez or Adrian Gonzalez to Red Sox. That would be sweet!

OK, so it's bad enough that the Mets suck platypus eggs. I can forgive them for that since one-third of the team is out on injuries, one-third are playing sore, and the remainder are simply Mets. I can even understand Castillo falling down the dugout stairs tonight because he has the coordination of a dodo bird.

But Sean Green? The boy throws six pitches in relief, gives up ten thousand hits, and then has the audacity to actually ice down his arm during the post-game interview.

Whatever happened to real pitchers who could toss full games with 160 pitch counts, then come back three days later and do it again?

And I still hate Pujols.

What's up Steve? I know it's been a rough year for Mets fans...All the injuries...They are saying now Reyes will not be back this season. The old time pitchers use to pitch on 3 days rest...What's up with all the pitch counts?

I found thi FYI in the Parade section today and thought it was interesting.--------- Q.---About how many baseballs does a major league team use per season? A.-----A lot. John Silverman, equipment manager for the Florida Marlins, says a big-league b-all lasts just three to four pitches.During an average game, up to eight dozen are used.Over a 162-game season, therefore, the 30 major-league teams together use more than 220,000 bails. That's good news for Rawlings, maker of the official major-league baseball.

Rough weekend for the BoSox.

Yankee pitching coming around + A-Rod clutch hitting = troubles for the rest of the AL East

What a terrible weekend! Red Sox bats are dead...The Yankees pitching over the weekend had a lot to do with it...Still a lot of games left...Always got the wildcard...Red Sox will snap out of it, too much talent...
