I lived there from 68-76, moved to Gainesville for a "bit" of college, back to CA 80-89 then Fuquay. Like most old pharts, I learned to play ball in the street & was usually catcher or 1st base. Learned the hard way to use a glove but luckily you can't tell which fingers I broke. Made little league at Stengel Field in 69 but the next year grew boobies and they made me quit. Dumb boys!
My dad worked for Anheuser and always had tickets for home games right behind 1st. Steve Garvey was my first crush. I got to know his wife and made all sorts of plans to do away with her so he would marry me. Then I turned 12 and started liking other things. From 93-2003 my cousin in Tampa was a rookie-host and I got to meet a lot of Yankees during spring breaks. It wasn’t as exciting as when I was in high school plus I was already married with kids but still great times for my boys.

No point to the above ‘cept just sharing a memory :) But I will say I believe that Scoscia is one of the best managers ever, I don’t care if he’s an Angel. I think Rose should be in the HOF and he would be if he had fessed up at the beginning. Same with Bonds. One thing I taught my boys, no reason to lie; truth always comes out and hurts more later.

Favorite player: Cal Ripken, Jr. - hands down, classy.
And finally, just to weigh in, Rose got exactly what was coming to him. He knew the rules, knew the penalties, and chose to bet on his team anyway. He denied it for over a decade, then admitted it in an effort to sell some books. Keep that scum out of the hall. He'd step over his own mother to sell a kid an autograph.

For us who would like to see Pete in the Hall of Fame ...none of us would ever condone something like he did e.g.
At the same time for his on the field playing history we'd like to see him there at Cooperstown.

I'm also real excited about getting over to the DBAP and Five County Stadium to check out some games this year. Nothing beats a hot dog and a cold beer on a warm evening at a baseball game with friends. Everyone should experience that at some point.

In my opinion however, to receive a bust one needs to look at the entire career - and there is no overlooking his gambling issues. That, to me, is enough to keep him out. And for what its worth, I feel the same way about anyone who is found to have used steroids - including A-Rod. I know that players in the past have been found guilty of indiscretion and still allowed in, but there is nothing we can do about that now. To continue to allow players into the Hall of Fame who don't uphold Baseball's integrity using the precedent that we have done it before is a poor reason at best IMO.
I'm not accusing anyone on here of using that exact logic, but it is something you hear from the talking heads on TV quite a bit.
Either way, looking forward to opening day!

We've been to a few Oriole games in the past and had great times. They put out the effort to be family friendly and ticket prices were cheap compared to Atlanta or NY. Food was still expensive but it seems to be the norm at most parks.
I kind of miss the old Durham Bulls ball park. The new one is nice and all but doesn't have the same feel. We didn't care about the dirt and I liked the old feel of the wood benches behind home plate. We usually sat on a blanket in the dirt at the fence behind 1st. Kids loved when the players would wave or make comments to them.

LOL, I'm just not sure the Yankees are aggressive enough in the offseason - maybe if they spent a little more on free agents... Then they would be sure to make the playoffs! LOL!!!
(Yes I know it is only one game, but Oriole fans only get trash talking ability until about July - and that's if we are lucky. And yes, I realize the irony of talking trash about the yankees moronic free agent spending while having a Redskins avatar - so no need to point that out)

Mora was awesome at 3rd. Jones was the star of the show. Don't know what to say about CC. Money cannot buy you love!
Best part for me, I was getting bored and Posada was up (one of my favs) and I said "do something" and he hit a 1st pitch dinger. Kinda cool.
Of course everyone keeps reminding me... it's only April so anything can happen.

Congrats to the Reds, its always nice to see them do well. My Orioles were looking good until yesterday - that was a rough loss to the yankees. But hey, I'll take winning 2 of 3 anytime.
