Red Sox vs. Mets

Just 1 thing ...I hate the Spankmes! >:P

poohperson - I can go on all day/night what I miss about So CA. Especially the food!

I lived there from 68-76, moved to Gainesville for a "bit" of college, back to CA 80-89 then Fuquay. Like most old pharts, I learned to play ball in the street & was usually catcher or 1st base. Learned the hard way to use a glove but luckily you can't tell which fingers I broke. Made little league at Stengel Field in 69 but the next year grew boobies and they made me quit. Dumb boys!

My dad worked for Anheuser and always had tickets for home games right behind 1st. Steve Garvey was my first crush. I got to know his wife and made all sorts of plans to do away with her so he would marry me. Then I turned 12 and started liking other things. From 93-2003 my cousin in Tampa was a rookie-host and I got to meet a lot of Yankees during spring breaks. It wasn’t as exciting as when I was in high school plus I was already married with kids but still great times for my boys.

In July 86 I was 8 months pregnant & there was some kind of Dodger Day thing. My dad walked me on the field & I got “tummy rubbed” by Fernando, Sax, Scioscia, Niedenfuer, Stubbs, a few others. I remember trying to get Brock & Marshall and a little team crazy; think I scared them off. Don’t know who but someone gave my dad an armful of baby stuff. I got pics of my son propped up next to a huge glove and bat wearing the cutest pinstripes. A lot of blowup stuff that has since burst. Need to digitize the pics so my son can show his son. Feels like only yesterday I was crying because Garvey left for SD and now my baby is 23!

No point to the above ‘cept just sharing a memory :) But I will say I believe that Scoscia is one of the best managers ever, I don’t care if he’s an Angel. I think Rose should be in the HOF and he would be if he had fessed up at the beginning. Same with Bonds. One thing I taught my boys, no reason to lie; truth always comes out and hurts more later.

Rose screwed up...and he is a jerk, but denying his contribution to the game is a disservice to baseball. On the field, in his playing days he was what baseball was supposed to be about.

Dang, am I the first Baltimore Orioles fan? Go O's! We've got a little pop off the bat but ZERO pitching. We won't get far (again!) into the season before it is over. Looking forward to seeing some of the young...oh yeah, that's right, they don't show O's games here because the broadcast rights are owned by MASN. Thanks Time Warner.

Favorite player: Cal Ripken, Jr. - hands down, classy.

And finally, just to weigh in, Rose got exactly what was coming to him. He knew the rules, knew the penalties, and chose to bet on his team anyway. He denied it for over a decade, then admitted it in an effort to sell some books. Keep that scum out of the hall. He'd step over his own mother to sell a kid an autograph.

Welcome DasStonecutter! Are you ready for baseball like I am? Orioles are in toughest division in baseball. That's what hurts them plus no pitching. Great rookie catcher! Good luck to the Orioles.

Somehow I have to believe that each MLB team throughout the decades has had some player closet skeletons who have screwed up. One can just about bet that some of those other screw-ups are in the Hall of Fame.

For us who would like to see Pete in the Hall of Fame ...none of us would ever condone something like he did e.g.

At the same time for his on the field playing history we'd like to see him there at Cooperstown.

Thanks DukeBlueGuru. It's nice to have some other fans to converse with. My friends are really only slightly interested in baseball, and that is really only around playoff time. I am very excited about the season starting. The O's will have it tough, but I think definitely can do some damage. They have a very good record against the Yankees the last two years (I think we are over .500, but I'm not 100% on that) - the BoSox are getting older, and the Rays may be a one and done (although I don't really believe that). So I guess anything can happen - that's what makes it fun.

I'm also real excited about getting over to the DBAP and Five County Stadium to check out some games this year. Nothing beats a hot dog and a cold beer on a warm evening at a baseball game with friends. Everyone should experience that at some point.

Skywatch, I understand where you are coming from, and I too think that Pete's play should be included and even highlighted in Cooperstown. No one can deny that he played his rear off every time he stepped on the field.

In my opinion however, to receive a bust one needs to look at the entire career - and there is no overlooking his gambling issues. That, to me, is enough to keep him out. And for what its worth, I feel the same way about anyone who is found to have used steroids - including A-Rod. I know that players in the past have been found guilty of indiscretion and still allowed in, but there is nothing we can do about that now. To continue to allow players into the Hall of Fame who don't uphold Baseball's integrity using the precedent that we have done it before is a poor reason at best IMO.

I'm not accusing anyone on here of using that exact logic, but it is something you hear from the talking heads on TV quite a bit.

Either way, looking forward to opening day!

Looks like quite an interesting forecast for Cincinnati for the Reds' opening day! ;)

Monday: Rain showers likely before 2pm, then rain and snow showers likely. Cloudy, with a high near 42. Southwest wind 11 to 15 mph becoming northwest. Winds could gust as high as 26 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts of less than a tenth of an inch possible.

What's up Skywatch? Baseball season is here! So many early season games affected by bad weather. Nothing like baseball with snow flurries.

Hey DukeBlueGuru! :)

Looks like Wednesday is the next best day for the Reds' season opener ...

Wednesday: Partly sunny, with a high near 49.

Skywatch_NC ~ What is the weather forecast for my White Sox?

Skywatch_NC ~ What is the weather forecast for my White Sox?

It's about as crazy as Cincy's opening day wx! lol ;)

Monday: A 30 percent chance of snow showers. Cloudy, with a high near 40. Breezy, with a north northwest wind between 20 and 25 mph, with gusts as high as 40 mph.

DasStonecutter - After my last post I wondered if anyone from around here were Oreo fans. I watch them on MASN but only when they play Yankees or if there's nothing else going on.

We've been to a few Oriole games in the past and had great times. They put out the effort to be family friendly and ticket prices were cheap compared to Atlanta or NY. Food was still expensive but it seems to be the norm at most parks.

I kind of miss the old Durham Bulls ball park. The new one is nice and all but doesn't have the same feel. We didn't care about the dirt and I liked the old feel of the wood benches behind home plate. We usually sat on a blanket in the dirt at the fence behind 1st. Kids loved when the players would wave or make comments to them.

The Braves were pretty impressive last night. Derek Lowe had a great night. Gonzo had me worried for a while, but he pulled it off. I know the season has just begin, but if the Braves can stay healthy, and play like they did last night, it will be a good year.

Yes the Braves did look good last night. Lowe was tremendous and should have a good year. The key to the Braves is can Chipper stay healthy and Francouer needs to have a big season. Also I am a little worried about there bullpen.

Well, the Mets beat the Reds 2-1 there at the Great American Ballpark on a raw and nasty wx opener day! ;)

Well folks, I am a die hard red sox fan and i'm sticking to that...:)

Well MojoGal, you and I can celebrate for at least one day! 10-5 Orioles over yankees! I guess even though George "Mr. Burns" Steinbrenner can go out and buy the best pitcher on the market he still can't make him locate his fastball when it counts. And that is good news for Oriole fans!

LOL, I'm just not sure the Yankees are aggressive enough in the offseason - maybe if they spent a little more on free agents... Then they would be sure to make the playoffs! LOL!!!

(Yes I know it is only one game, but Oriole fans only get trash talking ability until about July - and that's if we are lucky. And yes, I realize the irony of talking trash about the yankees moronic free agent spending while having a Redskins avatar - so no need to point that out)

My Red Sox off to a good start today beating the Rays! Beckett looked good , 7 innings pitched- 2 hits allowed- 1 earned run and 10 strikeouts...

I tried my best to watch most of the game and gotta give kudos to the Orioles. Yankee pitching is still in spring training I guess. They might be one of my fav teams but I have no problem calling someone out if they stunk, even Jeter :)

Mora was awesome at 3rd. Jones was the star of the show. Don't know what to say about CC. Money cannot buy you love!

Best part for me, I was getting bored and Posada was up (one of my favs) and I said "do something" and he hit a 1st pitch dinger. Kinda cool.

Of course everyone keeps reminding me... it's only April so anything can happen.

DBG- BoSox did look good. A win against the Rays is worth just as much now as it is in September. Beckett is a horse. The problem with those power pitchers is that they always end up losing time to injury and then have to rest up for the post season. Hopefully that is not the case with Beckett. He should be a perennial 20 game winner if he stays healthy.

No matter how you slice it, the AL East is going to be fun to watch this year.

Reds drop a second one in a row to the Mets 9-7.

"If you build it, he will come" Kevin Costner, Field of Dreams 1989

"Pick me out a winner, Bobby" Roy Hobbs, The Natural 1984

"A good friend of mine used to say, This is a very simple game. You throw the ball, you catch the ball, you hit the ball. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose, sometimes it rains,Think about that for awhile" Bull Durham 1988

Reds won their first home game today for 2009 defeating the Mets 8-6! :)

Not sure how many other baseball fans have heard ...but during the predawn hours of Thurs. ...Angels rookie pitcher Nick Adenhart, 22, after having pitched his first (and only MLB game) was killed along with 2 others by a hit-and-run driver ...who was apprehended later and found to be drunk! :( Nick's father had flown out from Maryland to see his son pitch ...prayers and thoughts with the families of the victims. :(

Skywatch - very sad story. Adenhart was supposedly a very promising pitcher with a bright career ahead of him.

Congrats to the Reds, its always nice to see them do well. My Orioles were looking good until yesterday - that was a rough loss to the yankees. But hey, I'll take winning 2 of 3 anytime.

Prayers and thought's going out to Nick Adenhart's Fmily, Friends, Team mates and Fans. You will be missed.

I cannot imagine the grief and pain this young mans parents and friends are going through. What a tragedy.

Reds are 2-2 so far with a loss to the Pirates today of 10-2.

My White Sox are up by five on the Minnesota Twins as we speak!

Finallyyyyy, lol, My sox worked very hard for their win today :p...Congats on you who's team won :)

Tempers flaring today between Bosox and Angels...

Happy Easter to my fellow Golo MLB fans! :)

Reds shut out the Pirates 2-0. :)

------------------------------------------------------------ --------------------

Tempers flaring today between Bosox and Angels...

LOL, There was nothing boring about that game DukeBlueGuru:).. Four men ejected on one team, wow....Just happy to be outta there :)

Angels in a brawl - don't seem very "angelic" to me ...

Reds edge the Brewers 7-6 there at Milwaukee. :)

O's top Rangers 10-9. Orioles are knocking the cover off the ball right now - currently hitting .303 as a team (3rd in AL) but don't know if it will hold up and make up for the lackluster pitching for long. Either way, we're a half game out of first so I'll take it while I can get it!

Hey BlueDevilRose, your White Sox have won 3 in a row!

What a sad week in baseball, I heard about Mark Fidyrich last night. What a character he was, very fun to watch him pitch...All of baseball was in love with this guy during the summer of 1976.

Hey Private Pyle! How bout your Padres, 6 and 3...I watched them beat the Mets last night.

What a sad week in baseball, I heard about Mark Fidrych last night. What a character he was, very fun to watch him pitch...All of baseball was in love with this guy during the summer of 1976.

Last week Nick Adenhart and now this week, Mark Fidrych ...prayers and thoughts with their families. :(

Nationals get the World Series Champion Phillies again tonight. Will they win their first game of the season? Will they ever win a game? Only time will tell...

Sad to see Harry Kalas pass away too. Had no idea he was one of the voices for NFL films until I heard his call of Mike Schmidt's 500th home run this morning on Mike and Mike.

It's been a rough couple of weeks in baseball.

I just heard yesterday that Josh Beckett was fined and out for 5 or 6 games, well, because of the rotation he'll actually only miss 1 of them :(

DukeBlueGuru ~ You jinxed my White Sox!

BlueDevilRose,LOl, what did he say????? He's a Dukie so it couldn't have been too bad :) Your sox will do just fine..

If DukeBlueGuru congratulates you on your team, watch out! :)

oh no......rotfl
