White Sox, that is!

What's up yeleyfan? The Braves are my fav NL team, use to love watching them om TBS over the years. The Braves just won't spend money anymore...Ted Turner use to spend when he owned the Braves, I have always liked Bobby Cox.

Go Padres...yeah, you heard correctly.

Hello Private Pyle, San Diego Padres, that's cool I respect everyones favorites. You got a great pitcher in Jake Peavy.

I've been a braves fan for years, but I'm sick about losing Smoltz. He was my fav, I don't care if he is old, for a pitcher. I don't know who I blame more, him or management. I also pull for the Yankees and the Rangers. Should be a good year for most teams.

No it will not be the same without seeing Smoltz in a Braves uniform. What a career he had in Atlanta.

"Hello Private Pyle, San Diego Padres, that's cool I respect everyones favorites. You got a great pitcher in Jake Peavy." BlueDevildnd

Well, I am waiting to see if they still move Peavy. Our pitching will be okay, but our offense STINKS. We've got two maybe three bats, that's it. Predicted LAST PLACE in the NL WEST...should not be a stretch. Speaking of Smoltz, made me sick when Trevor Hoffman left. End of an era; I always thought he would retire as a Padre, but oh well.

I have decided not to name my favorite team...after I do, they are certian to have an awful year...

Go Wolfpack!!!

lol Hilikus! I don't blame you there.

I grew up in and near the Cincinnati area from 1965-1985, lived in Middletown, NY from 1985-1988 and then here in NC 1988-present. My favorite teams are the Reds, Mets and Braves. :)

Welcome Skywatch! Sounds like you were living in Cincinnati during the Big Red Machine days. I will never forget the 1975 World Series when your Reds beat my Sox. What a series! I always liked Bench. Do you think Rose should be in th Hall of Fame?

Everyone give me your favorite players of all time. Mine would be Carl Yastrzemski, Johnny Bench, George Brett, and Carlton Fisk.

Hi BlueDevil and thank you very much for the warm welcome! :) Those were the years 1975 and 1976 and I remember those series well! :) I've always liked Johnny, too, and others from that period like Joe Morgan, Dan Driessen, Dave Concepcion, Ken Griffey Sr., etc. I've always admired Rose for his playing exploits but like many out there will always be saddened by his lack of judgment when it came to his teams gambling and tax evasion. I also feel for his kids. I would have liked to have seen Pete Jr. make it big somewhere in the majors. I know that other players have made mistakes in MLB e.g., too, and hopefully Rose can still be in the Hall of Fame someday.

Some of my favorite players of all time ...Johnny Bench, Joe Morgan, Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, etc.

I was a huge fan of John Smoltz, but now have changed my mind. I really don't know who my favs would be. I'll have to give that one some thought.

Tony Gwynn. Rollie Fingers. Trevor Hoffman...I did say I was a Padres fan, right? Steve Garvey...just for his off the field antics.

Tony Gwynn, Ken Caminiti, Pete Rose (his playing days anyway)

Bob Horner. LOL Just kidding.

Being a former 3rd baseman I really admire Ron Santo. On the mound I'm a Bob Feller fan. I've got too many others to name right now though.

Hili- I'll agree with Charlie Hustle. I hate he got mixed up in gambling but on the field his play spoke for itself.

I was a 3rd baseman too Hanker....for 15 years or so. Probably the reason Ken Caminiti is in my list.

Nobody worked harder than old Pete on the field.

My all time favorites would have to be Steve Garvey, Steve Sax, Mike Scioscia (favorite catcher ever, that guy could take a hit), Ken Griffey Jr., brett Butler, and Eric Young (good ol EY).

Hey Poohperson I agree with you on Mike Scioscia. Nobody could block the plate like him. I am a former catcher so I know what those guys have to do. Toughest position in all of sports in my opinion. I like some of the old names you guys mentioned. Rose has been punished enough, nobody ever played the game harder or with more hustle. I'd rather he be in there than these steroid cheaters.

Blue, you must be a west coaster too. I was a catcher in HS and the two years I played softball in college. It is a challenging position.

I was a back up catcher when not on 3rd base...my knees couldn't handle much more. Rose should be in the hall of fame. When he played, that man was what baseball should be. Of course, in my list I also have a steriod cheater...but stats are not how I pick my favorites...it's all in their approach to the game...and steroids don't change that.

Rose has been punished enough, nobody ever played the game harder or with more hustle. I'd rather he be in there than these steroid cheaters.

Totally agree, BlueDevil

I'm glad to be here representing Cardinals Nation!

What's up Thanos? Welcome to the group. How are the Cards going to do this year? Is Pujols awesome or what? Chris Carpenter is having a great spring.

Pete Rose should definitely be inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame. Bud Selig is a disgrace; the worst commissioner ever!

"I'm trully torn. I've been a Yankee's fan for ever but since they hosed Torre I find myself pulling for the Dodgers. SLAYER - GOLO member since November 6, 2007 - March 18, 2009 7:36 a.m."

I was born into a Yankee family. Moved to Glendale, CA when I was 10 and my dad took me to hundreds of Dodger games. Taught me respect for the game, "hate the man not the team", and that it was okay to have a favorite on each side.

Every year I root for the Dodgers & Yankees. Thought last summer would be the year I get the new ulcer but their blowing it kept me under control. Oh, and I detest Arod but that stems from years back, not because he's a Yankee. It's a personal thing. But I do count on him being the best, that is why we're paying him, right?

I also have a soft spot for the Pittsburgh Pirates. Quincy Latimore is the son of a man who works at my campus and we all hope the best for him.

Welcome MojoGal! Seems like you are a big baseball fan. I know you have great memories going to all those Dodger games with your Dad. I bet you saw some great players! Baseball is such a wonderful game and I think it brings out the kid in all of us. I played every summer from Little League, Pony League, Colt League and American Legion baseball. I got my love of the game from my father who as a child was a batboy for the Durham Bulls. Thanks fo joining and look forward talking baseball with you.

I'm a Phillies fan! I have pulled for them since I was a young teen. But I'm really just a baseball fan. I can watch the game, regardless of who plays. I just enjoy it. Typically, if I'm not pulling for the Phillies, I love the Braves or Red Sox. Sorry, NOT a Yankees fan here.

Mojo,

I am from So Cal and also been to many a dodger game. That and the weather are the only too things I really miss. I remember sitting at home waatching the TV as Kirk Gibson limped up to the plate and hit his game winning home run. That is one of my favorite Dodger momemnts ever.

Hello Rocknhorse, welcome to MLB! The Phillies will be tough this year. Rollins, Howard, and Utley are some trio. Glad to see you like my Red Sox. Talk to you later.

"Selig is a disgrace; the worst commissioner ever!"

I totally agree. His handling of things totally baffles me sometimes.

I am a lifetime Yankee fan, so I have been rooting for them for 5 decades. I watched Mickey Mantle hit his 500th homerun and suffered much abuse in a predominantly Met fan neighborhood on Long Island in the late 60's and early 70's.

I am excited about this season because for the first time this decade we have depth in all areas of pitching. They made all the right moves this winter and shed some of their excessive payroll. The big signings are going to be worth the money. 3 players in the prime of their careers.

As for the Red Sox fans, I am hoping to not get into to many heaated discussions here with them. I was never an antogonist for Red Sox fans and rarely did I dislike or even recognize a major rivalry until the late 1990's. I even rooted for them back in 1986 to win the WS against the arrogant Met's. I have always am and will be an American League fan. I beleive most Red Sox not from New England fans are just anti-Yankee fans. I am hopefully proven wrong on this matter.

oops... i meant antagonist...

BlueDevilRose, I agree ...Pete Rose belongs in the HOF. He did enough on the field to deserve it.

Welcome to my group damnyankee58! We should have some interesting conversations about the AL East and other baseball matters. Ready for the season to start!

Hi Major League Baseball Friends ~ I am encouraged by your positive comments regarding Pete Rose. I believe that he has been wronged by the sport to which he gave his all. The punishment should fit the crime...

I agree that Pete Rose was a GREAT player, but you know what? He broke the rules...the BIGGEST rule. I have no sympathy for him.

Other MLB players have made infractions ...any of them in the Hall of Fame?

I agree with Private Pyle. While Rose put up amazing numbers, his gambling actions should keep him from the Hall of Fame. I'd take an above-average hitter with dedication and class over Rose any day of the week.

"Other MLB players have made infractions ...any of them in the Hall of Fame?"

Yep, but they did not bet on baseball...or at least get caught doing it.

Yep, but they did not bet on baseball...

Well, then ...the MLB authorities should expand the territory and not just bar those players who have betted but, also, include those for drug abuse (steroids), alcoholism, etc.

Seems only fair IMO.

above-average hitter with steroids = no class

I totally agree that the territory should be widened. The rules need to be updated to maintain pace with the most current offenses, such as steriod usage.

drug abuse (steroids e.g.) ...rather

Thanks, Skywatch_NC! No excuse; however, it is getting late, for me.

Thanks, Skywatch_NC! No excuse; however, it is getting late, for me.

You're quite welcome, BDR. :)

In my earlier post I also added the e.g. to the steroids thing as to include other drugs that athletes have abused, too. Just didn't want folks to think that steroids was the sole drug of course that many players nowadays mess around with.

Hello Baseball Fans! With the 2009 season starting Sunday night I thought I would give my predictions. **********************************************

AL EAST- Red Sox AL Central- White Sox AL West- Angels AL Wildcard- Yankees ***********************************************

NL East- Mets NL Central- Cubs NL West- Dodgers NL Wildcard- Phillies

********************************************

NL MVP- David Wright AL MVP- Josh Hamilton NL CY YOUNG- Johan Santana AL CY YOUNG- C.C. Sabathia

*****************************************

World Series

Red Sox vs. Mets

*************************************

Just my opinions, hard to leave Devil Rays out but only 2 teams coming out of AL East...Red Sox pitching is awesome, Yankees are back...Tough choice between Mets and Phillies but I think Mets have finally got an outstanding bullpen especially K Rod... I welcome your predictions!
