about ode2joy

I enjoy life and the beauty that exists around me.  One reason I love photography is I may help make someone else open their eyes to the wonder that exists everywhere.  Another reason is: my father loved photography and this is something I inherited from him. I like to think he would be proud of me. I have been married 35 years and have a 25 year old son.  I am a nurse and love people.

Hi , been meaning to get on here to tell everyone what a nice lunch we had the other day. It was truly nice to meet you and as I've been reading your blogs and comments , I'm finding we tend to think alike. One of the things I've learned as a Christian over the years is to allow God to handle situations. Therefore, we don't have to judge or cast shadows over people-- just love them as Jesus would. One of my favorite radio stations is K-Love ( 106.7 ), which plays contemporary Christian . My plans , hopefully, for the 4th is to (maybe ? ) get out to the Regency , as I really enjoy our Symphony and the fireworks are fantastic over the lake !! Also, I think I know how your husband feels. My Dr is 'on my case' to really lose weight. It's really hard by yourself. I'm thinking once I get started walking , I might make it. alas-- its just getting started. :( Hope you have a wonderful 4th .. Thanks for getting the lunch together and hope we can do some more.

Ode: First of all, that as a tremendous blog you put up ont he "Two Horses" for Spunky. Kudos to you, hun! I would love you just for that....but the kitty on the keyboard....pricess. Can you tell I am a cat person!???! Have a wonderful weekend! I am on vacation next week....so keep this group pointed int he right direction (LOL)!

Ode: Do I ever...am a died in the wool "Elfprincess" (my husband tagged me with that one because I can feast out on LOTR...one DVD after the other. Read Tolkien when I was in high school (I am 59 will be 60 in January) and have been hooked ever since. The third quotation under my screen is from the speech given before battle...."there may be a day when men fail...but it is not this day"....and it just pumps me up! I am so a forest elf....love the quiet. Hope your weekend is wonderful...Lord I am ready fro my vacation next week. Give me time to spend with the hubby, kids, grans and my four kitties. Blessings on you, fair ode!

Ode: Yes I do...just not quite as much as Tolkien. Will chat more when I get back from vacation...Bye! /* Elf waves to new friend Ode!/

Good morning Elaine, thank you for your kind words. We played catch phrase last night.

How are you today?

Hey,just stopping by to say hello.Hope you had a happpy 4th weekend.Wishing you a nice evening.

Hi Elaine! Wishing you a wonderful upcoming week. {{hugs}}

Beth

"As seen through a tree limb!LOL" -- HAHA! You know what? I think those pictures are great -- the trees add character! Just goes to show that some things are unexpected, but you always have to adapt and make the most out of an unexpected situation. Your pics were great!

LOL! I love the fan idea! Now, if I can just find one big enough. :-)

Hope you have a wonderful week. (((hugs)))

Beth

Good Morning, glad that you had a good weekend with your family as I did with mine.We could see ther fire works frm my yard and justy being with my family made it all special to me.Wishing you very good day.

thank you for your kind words on my blog. I thought I might do a series this week on real life people that I know that are just amazing in that way

That's what I like about you! Your imagination! LOL! :-)

Beth

So guess what? The Mystery Monday photo: closeup of a sunflower! Exactly right, ode... nice job!

Thanks for stopping by my blogs -- Have a great Tuesday, and stay safe out there!

Hey, we couldn't have been too far from each other on the 4th , as I was at the Regency , too -- and- taking pictures. Wish I'd know you were going to be there . I was way over past the left side of the stage , but not too close to the lake. The fireworks were Awesome !!! Took me forever to get home -afterwards .

Good morning! Hope you have a great day!!!

Hey there mama,

sorry I did not make it to the Cary Golo gathering last week. As you know what happened to me and my family that paticular day. Please forgive me, I would have had a blast meeting you and my aunty Sandra and everyone else.

thanks,

CC

Happy Humperz Day! I'm so glad you had a nice turn out for the meet. Hope another one is planned in Cary one weekend so we can join ya!

Good morning Ode!!! LOL, I should call them "Sandra's daily buns". ;D My friend sent me that yesterday via e-mail and I couldn't resist posting it. LOL Have an awesome day!!!

TGIF! Hope you enjoy the weekend! :)

Lets have some gallery beach pix when you come back!I love the beach too. ode2joy"""

Thanks, it really makes my leg look weird, but I like the view. I actually left my camera at home for the beach trip Saturday. But I'm sure we'll go there this week and next weekend, so I'll take some just for you! :)

Hope you enjoyed the weekend! Happy Monday to you!

Hi, Thanks for the anniversary wishes. I haven't been on here in a while, so that's why it took me so long to get back to you. We have been married for 3 years (we're still in our 20's). I hope you have a great week!

Hey Ode, thank you so much for organizing the lunch today, it was great fun. :-) {{{{{HUGS}}}}}

How was lunch?

I commented on your morning thread.

LOL.

FYI: Food Lion has Smithfield baby back ribs for $2.99/lb.

Guess what I'm cooking tonight? I bought 2 racks. Got 'em marinated and slow cooking until I finish 'em up on the grill.

Hopefully my pager won't go off before I'm done cooking and stuffing my face.

Hey there! The cat in your profile pic looks sooo much like my precious Andy. Absolutely gorgeous!

Gracie is absolutely beautiful in that picture - so peaceful and deserving of her lovely name. I'm glad you got to share your life with her.

LOL that was me that lost the 209lbs. I had a close friend (who was over 500 and I was 467) who had the gastric bypass. I just started eating like her (though actually a little more because she can't eat much).

I eat 2200 calories a day. No more than 55g of fat per day. No meal has more than 3g fat per 100 calories. 175 to 225g complex whole grain carbs a day. 25g-30g of Fiber per day. NO REFINED SUGARS at all! NO soda, absolutely NO carbonation (causes stomach to expand and feel empty). I drink 84 or more oz of water (or crystal light or something with no sugar) and I take in 90g of protein a day. I do cardio work outs 4x a week and I strength train 2x a week.

It's taken me 2 years to get from 467 to 258. I have 68 more lbs to lose

I can appreciate how your husband feels. I was 5'9 and 467 lbs.

I'm not sure that the lap band will be effective enough. Based on all the research I helped my friend do (who had the gastric bypass) People only loose abour 40 to 60% of their body fat. Geared more towards people who are only 60-120lbs overweight. But that was our research and I'm sure if your husband is seeing a doctor he's already had all these conversations. Which doctor is he seeing. I hope not Dr. Enochs.

What made me want to? There are so many things I can't really list them all. It was an accumulation of everything I enjoyed that I couldn't physically do anymore and I felt dead. As for my quality of life, I was dead. Health wise, I was heading there. I was afraid to take the risk of the surgery (since 467 is super high risk of complications). So when my friend did it, I went on a diet along with her and follow the exact same thing she does. (con't)

(con't). There were things like, I'm a hockey fan (HUGE!!) but I couldn't fit in the normal seats, I had to get the special folding chairs. I couldn't go through the turnstyle, I had to ask them to move it. I could never fit in a booth at a resturaunt, always had to ask for a table, and then my chair always jetted out in everyone's way. I couldn't wear a normal seatbelt. I couldn't rent a car without renting a "full size" to make sure I could fit behind the wheel and I couldn't have "captain seating" because I couldn't fit with those chairs. I couldn't attend any plays at my daughter's school because I couldn't fit - nor could I stand for that long. Always worrying about where we were going if there would be a place for me to sit I could fit. I couldn't walk long without being so winded I thought I was going to die. All the physical activities I liked doing outside, I just couldn't do, which meant no fishing with my uncle (I was too big for the flat bottom boat).

I'm so glad to hear he's getting help. Truly. I'm even more glad you're not seeing Enochs. Everyone (from all the weight loss support groups) I've talked to, Enochs is not engaged with his patients after the surgeries. He doesn't even show up to the post-op appointments. Some have been left waiting for over 2 hours while the nurse tries to squeeze them in since Enochs never shows. They loose paperwork, etc. It's a horrible mess. Be thankful your not there. I've heard good things about Moran. My friend went to Pinehurst - Dr. Mitchell since he specializes in high risk (patients over 380lbs).

I'm here if you need support or help. Also, my friend hangs out on ObesityHelp.com - on the NC Message Board as "Cagair". There are lots of Lap band, gastric bypass and duodinal switch patients there for you or your hubby to talk to and ask questions. They also hold local meetings once a month on Saturday off Millbrook. They have other side meetings specifically for (con't)

lap banders, meetings for people with BMIs over 40, etc. You should really check it out

I don't, personally, but I'm in Florida now visiting my sister. She lives by a bayou

I love your story telling abilities, it seems to flow so easy and natural. I always get ahead of myself, and then have to go back...Really enjoy the stories about your family, it brings up some truly wonderful memories for me...Thank you, thank you.

Hey elaine...Just wanted to return the hello. :) I drove down to B&N in Fed'vul to see what was new in the book stacks this morning. :) Stopped in at Krispy Kreme for one each strawberry and blueberry doughnuts. Sigh...nirvana. Have a good afternoon!

Good morning. Just checking to see how you and your husband are doing.

ode - things didn't go too well for hubby?? i'm so sorry please talk to me if you ever want to..

we can still get together for a coffee or even a cocktail at ruby tuesdays.... my calendar is pretty free this week!

I am so sorry about your husband. I lost mine to melanoma 4 years ago and we made the same decision about bringing him home. He had the opportunity for all his friends to come and say goodbye and he died in my arms. I will never regret our choice.

If you need someone to vent to I'll be glad to listen. Sometimes it is easier to talk to someone that doesn't know you well than to say things on your mind to family or friends.

Keeping you and your family in my thoughts and prayers. Lesli

Elaine...I just read your blog about your husband being in the hospital and anout his heart being enlarged. Consider this as a big bear hug from me. My heart goes out to you. I admire you strength towards the situation. Our Lord Jesus can work miracles if we only ask. I will be praying for a full recovery, and for his hand to reach down from heaven and give you and your family great comfort. If there is anything I can do, please don't hesitate to ask. I mean that...

Elaine, I don't know you, but read your blog! I'm praying for you and your husband...peace be with you, and your husband.

Elaine, I missed your post earlier. Just want to say I am praying for your hubby, you and your family.

Hi ode, my father has Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension which is deterioration of the arteries that run between the lungs and the heart, causing enlargement of the right side of the heart. There were a couple of medications that he took before the one he is on now and I can't remember the names of them, I will try to find out tomorrow from my dad. Right now he is on a medication that he gets through a hickman device that is called Flolan, it is supposed to slow down the deterioration. I don't know if that one would work for your husband but let me ask my dad about the ones he was on before so I can find out if they were for the heart or for the arteries. I will post this to you tomorrow afternoon as I won't be able to get in touch with him until after lunch.

Oh, and please know that I am praying for you and your husband.

Ode, I can't remember how long my father had been feeling unwell before they figured out what the problem was. I will ask him that as well when I talk to him. Please email me at sansa.stormfire@gmail.com so I don't have to give his private details on GOLO. Thank you, I promise to email you back as soon as I talk to him. I am sincerely concerned for you and your husband and am praying mightily that he gets better.

{{{{{{{Elaine}}}}}}}}}}

My Prayers are with you and your hubby.

keeping you and your family close in prayer. I know this is a tough time but also a peaceful time as your family draws closer.

Hey,wanted you to know how sorry I'am about your husband,I know this has to be hard on you.I'm praying for you- Lord I come to you in prayer for ode and her family I'm asking you to give them comfort, strength, and peace.Lord I know this was a hard decesion her husband made and hard for this family to accept Lord be with all and that they may feel youur presance and know that youi are with them and be with ode husband put your loving arms around him and heal him Lord or just to let him know you are by his side.We know you have the power to do all things if it be in your will and Lord what ever your will is be with this family in Jesus holy name Amen.Just keep your eyes on God he will help you get through this.(((Hugs)))))

How's everything going today my friend.

With love.

God bless.
