I recently fell off the wagon after 4 mos without smoking...disappointed in myself but taking it day by day

It can be done. After 35 years each, my wife and I quite using the gum and the patch. Was 9 years ago. We have not gone back or wanted to go back. Took a heart bypass operation for me to finally give it all up. I found giving up the gum was harder than the cigarettes! Hard to believe, but true. Oh well, keep up the good work guys and gals! It is worth it.

decision to move forward in life. No more excuses. The way I have quit each time is to just start quitting. I usually fail at least 2-3 times before I am successful. It generally takes up to 6 months of this quitting and failing to get it to the point where I am successful. I also think exercise is very important. I went through a pretty similar routine each time I quit. You just have to go through it. The idea that you will find the perfect way to quit is not realistic. The idea that you will quit one time and be successful is not either. I say lighten up on yourself and just do it. Accept that you will not be perfect but don;t give up. I don't think it matters if other people around you smoke either. I live in China now and when I spoked it seemed liek everyone was smoking, now I am in rooms of people all the time where no one is smoking, without even trying. Heck, I see people lighting up in the GYM locker room for heavens sake! Good luck to you all!

Hello everyone, I had the idea of starting a blog to support others with the name Quitter are Winners and seems I'm not alone so I just joined. I began smoking "again" on Thanksgiving 2005 and quit Thanksgiving 2009, exactly four years later. It was the longest I had ever smoked in my life. Before that it was for two years tops at a time, maybe 3 times in my life. So it has been 106 days! I guess I am on here because the last couple days I was thinking about it a little. It is all emotions. Get a little disgruntled and it seems the "idea" comes back. It is really just giving up to start again and I know I would be very upset and disappointed to start again.

Some encouragement and tips: I have amazing energy now that I quit. Just a month after quitting I could run treadmill for 30 minutes and not top heart rate of 145. Before I would be at 160 easy. Also felt like I had unlimited energy. I haven;t replaced smoking with anything like food, etc. For me, it is a decision

Last night was one week of being smoke free. It's getting easier to ignore the urges and I've noticed I have a lot more energy.

Slayer - I truly hope you can stay smoke free. This is such a hard thing to do and aside from expensive aids, there's not a lot of help out there. Do you have insurance to help cover the meds? My insurance won't cover Chantix. I think we get a discount but still, $120 a bottle is madness.

When I was diagnosed with cancer I put the cigs away and tried cold turkey. Big mistake. Doctor didn't even encourage me but told me to wait. I just found through my insurance with the state, Medco, that with a doctors signature I can qualify for free patches, about 10-weeks worth. I'm waiting for the approvals and stuff right now.

I've heard from many at work that Welbutrin really helped them. If the patches don't work I'll be asking about that. Let us know how you're doing.

My previous post should have been midnight on the 24th not the 25.

Hello, I'm slayer and I'm 31 hours of smoke free. I put them down at midnight on the 25th of February. You may have visited some of my blogs. Anyway I just joined up. I'm on Welbutrin to help me with it and I'm doing the gum, carrot sticks, celery and sunflower seeds as well.

Correction: Her father passed away not father in law

To all of you who are members on here and are attempting to quit GOOD FOR YOU!!! I am smoke free for 8 months now. I was walking out of work one day and had just lit one up when my brother called me and told me his father in law had throat cancer and was only given 6 months. I put my cigarette out and vowed to myself to never have another one again. Yes, it was very hard. However, the thought of my son being given the same news as my sister in law scared me beyond words. Her father in law passed away in December from complications of throat cancer. I am not going to preach to any of you. I will encourage you and be your shoulder to lean on. You do have the will power and strength to do it. You just need to find it inside yourself. Good luck
