LOL... being reared right under my "Depression era" grandparents, I've been pinching pennies for years! I'm trying to think of something that isn't just ordinary living for me, to pass on to the rest of you!

One thing is for sure, it certainly has made for easy acclimation to the financial picture of today, as there really wasn't anything to adjust here on the homefront.

Terri

you got company coming for dinner... buy them big scallops on sale only...put them in freezer for about 15 minutes then slice them. each big one yets at least two most of the time 3 slices...use angel hair...cook it...toss with scallops ...you need to cook them first in butter and lemon...or the best way..two strips of bacon..fried up....cook scallop slices in that...squeeze lemon on it...toss with pasta...not too expensive and impressive...

take bacon out before you do the scallops and break it up and toss with everything else.

angelfoodministries.com If you eat you qualify and there are many pick up sites around the Triangle. The food is quality and the menu changes from month to month....good for families with kids. Also the homeeconomiser.com that is the homepage for America's Cheapest Family...they have a book too. Of course I recommend that you be cheap and borrow the book and not buy it.

www.savvydollar.org - if you have questions or want to know where the deals are...that's the site. It's a local NC site, and the primary focus is around coupons- but not always.

Mention 'esavymom' sent you (that's my username on there) in the Registration "how did you hear about us?" section.

I've learned TONS from this site. And there is usually a weekly post by Sue Stock at the top of the Grocery and Drugstore categories.

Another good site is Faye Prosser's Resources page- she lists several other websites that are very handy: http://smartspendingresources.com/resources.html

Just curious if anybody has heard anything good/bad about www.thegrocerygame.com/ There was a news story one evening on one of the national news stations about it. There's a fee to use the service, so that counts me out -- LOL. But I was just wondering if anybody else had heard anything good or bad about that place.

does anyone remember the newsletters that were made into books called the "tightwad gazette"?

Some good ideas in there. I used to have the books but I loaned them out and they were never returned

Javajoe: Did anyone answer you about thegrocerygame.com?

Hello everyone.

I'm gradually getting around to checking out all the groups on GOLO & joining them, so I finally made it to this one.

I'm interested in saving money, but not to the point of being cheap.

I rarely clip coupons, because either I don't use most of the products, or it's not worth paying a higher price to "buy 2" national-brand items to get a measley $.50 or $1.00 off-sorry! I usually stick to buying store brand on a LOT of items-no matter which grocery store I'm in.

Occasionally, when I see them, we do use coupons for meals in restaurants or pizza or something special like that. Generally, I don't have or take the time to peruse coupon flyers.

I do economize at home by turning off lights when leaving a room, turning off ceiling fans when not at home, & saving water in various ways. There is more that we can do, but haven't, yet.

I've gone to four 10-hr days at work to save gas. I walk wherever I can at lunch instead of drive-post office, store, etc.

One other thing I just thought in saving gas:

Anytime I go somewhere that has a drive-thru & there's more than 1 or 2 cars ahead of me, I park, get out & go inside to buy or bank.

A couple of days ago, I went to the CLAYTON HARDEES. Didn't see anyone ahead of me until AFTER I'd given my order & drove around to pay & pick up my order. There was a car sitting at the window. I waited about 15 seconds & nothing was happening at the window. I finally decided to shut my car off because I had a feeling they'd be there for awhile. Thank goodness I did, because I sat there FIVE MINS. before their order arrived at the window & they drove off. What a colossal waste of gas that would have been-I drive a Dodge Magnum with a hemi!

It seems that most of the time Burger King in Clayton will tell you to pull forward if your order is not ready & some of the Mickey Ds do this too, so at least you can shut your car off if you want to. What's up with you Hardees??
