Didn't intend to disparage you; I get that response all the time, though. I'll comment on how amazing it was for a F5 to shred a downtown area, leaving one building in its path completely untouched. Someone will then step in and start berating me on how 37 people died in that storm and how could I not note that. Well, I do recognize the tragedy, but that is not what I was talking about. I was specifically discussing an F5 tornado. And an F5 gets me excited for its own sake.

On this group, it is assumed that everyone will recognize the seriousness in terms of human lifes and property as a function of the weather, but there is no need to qualify a discussion with any kind of solemn eulogy mourning the human loss.

It is understood.

By the way, as people join I am making them full editors with blogging and image-posting priviledges. It just may take a bit of time since I have to check back regularly in order to change permissions.

"I was fortunate enough to see the aftermath of Katrina" I agree it's a great topic. I was in Slidell, LA for 2 weeks a month after Katrina hit, and it was still just an absolute mess.

Great idea for a group. I am actually a weather spotter. My family thinks I am crazy because I am constantly analyzing the clouds for instability and the potential for a storm to build. On my way home, there is a large field with a mountain in the distance and to see a storm building there is just phenomenal.

I am no daredevil, but when I watch a storm chaser show, I wish I was one of them. I don't know what is is about watching an impending storm build.

Anyway . . . so obviously I am a weather geek. Greg Fishel was sitting in front of me when I went to weather spotter training. One of the cooler moments of my life. LOL

Oh, for good information and also how I got hooked up to be a weather spotter, go to: www.weather.gov/rah

My favorite site for pulling up the radar, putting it on loop and setting it to refresh to monitor weather on its way here!

There is an impressive tropical wave coming off the coast of africa this morning... if it holds itself together we could have something interesting to watch in the tropics!

I'm intrigued by this talk about "weather spotters." Someone should blog about what that entails and how you become one. Just a suggestion, of course... -Angela

Golo Managing Editor.- If you are interested in spotter training, there will be a NC SkyWarn Spotter Basic Class on August 14, from 7-9pm at the Cary Fire Dept #1. This will be a really informative class that will give you basics on severe t-storm criteria, as well as how to differentiate clouds. Some people think 1 cloud may look like a tornado, but it's actually called what is scud. Etc. You can check out some info at http://centralcarolinaskywarn.net/

I've been away from TV for a few days. Any weather brewing in the tropics?

Nothing right now. There is a weak tropical wave just now coming off the coast of Africa, but conditions are not at all favorable for development and it is expected to dissapate.

By the way, the National Hurricane Center has a great graphic showing all storms and areas of disturbances at:

http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/index.shtml

i dont know about the tropics, but i know its really hot right now! i think its supposed to rain this afternoon maybe? hope it does so we can cool off to high 80's instead of high 90's...

the wave off the coast of africa fizzled out...

AN AREA OF LOW PRESSURE ASSOCIATED WITH A TROPICAL WAVE OVER THE EASTERN ATLANTIC...ABOUT 675 MILES WEST OF THE CAPE VERDE ISLANDS...IS PRODUCING A LIMITED AMOUNT OF SHOWER ACTIVITY. ALTHOUGH ATMOSPHERIC CONDITIONS ARE CURRENTLY NOT VERY CONDUCIVE...SLOW DEVELOPMENT OF THIS SYSTEM IS POSSIBLE AS IT ENCOUNTERS SLIGHTLY WARMER WATERS DURING THE NEXT COUPLE OF DAYS.

Where did THAT come from?

Edouard has formed just south of Mississippi as a topical storm, with winds of 50 mph. It is moving west at 4 mph and is expected to impact the Texas coastline by Tuesday morning.

It came out of nowhere. I don't even remember seeing any disturbance in the Gulf yesterdsy when I checked.

I like it hot. As I read the news headlines I chuckled when I saw the graphic WRAL posted next to the story about the heat. It's a graphic for winter weather! Ha ha! I don't think any snow will be sticking today. http://www.wral.com/weather/image/2310457/?img_list=2774561%2C2310457&ref_id=3323230

"Where did that come from?"

My sister is working in Texas currently. I asked her the other day if she was feeling any effects of the storm, and she asked, "What storm?" THEN, she checked the forcast and informed me she was out of the way of it. Thank goodness!

gearing up for some storms tonight fellow weather lovers??

I live in Southwestern Wayne County... it was REALLY stormy at the Taylor house last night! There are powerlines and trees down on 117.

Well hopefully it wasn't too bad Wine Girl... it looks like y'all might get some severe weather on Wednesday as well.

While camping at the Outer Banks this past weekend, my husband was able to take a picture of a water spout and another of a spout forming beside a much larger spout. That one never reached ground and disipated. But it was pretty scary - particularly since we were camping. It was pretty miserable for the tent campers.

Pretty interesting weather for the eastern part of the state tomorrow. I am also keeping an eye on the tropics as some storms get wound up there!

anyone got any comments about Fay??

Ugh! How disappointing is all I got to say wine_girl. It looks like it is going to be well south and west of us.

I have a comment about Fay: I don't buy the whole 'stall and turn left' track the NHC has put out.

It will change tomorrow, and then again the next day, and continue to change for as long as Fay is an issue. For a GREAT weather discussion of Fay check out the blogs on www.wunderground.com

sweet!!! thanks for the invite!!!

I've got more acorns in my yard than I have ever had. Anyone think this is an omen for a hard Winter?

Ok, it's been too quiet in here for way too long. I have been busy at work but I'm going to make it a point to get us all interested in the weather again.

We have a category 4 hurricane out there this morning below Cuba!

I've got more acorns in my yard than I have ever had. Anyone think this is an omen for a hard Winter?

What do you think so far?
