Smile a lot -- it makes people wonder what you're up to! I grew up in the middle of nowhere, and that will always be my home. Now I'm into computer technologies -- it drives me crazy sometimes, but I love it.

Since joining GOLO, I've decided to start a Picture of the Day blog. Each day, I'll try my best to post a photo from my personal collection. While I'm at it, I'll ask a few questions or make a few comments to get your brains working and the conversation started. Everybody has a story to share -- feel free to share yours!

  • javajoe's Picture of the Day archives.
    • Here, you'll find all of my Picture of the Day posts from the past. Even if the day has already passed, stop in and share your comments - I'd love to hear them.
  • javajoe's Picture of the Day Group
    • Join the group to keep up with my daily blog post. Sometimes I post at 1-2AM, and by the time many of you login, my blog has disappeared from the GOLO homepage. So join the group, and easily find the link directly to my blog each day after I post!

favorites

favorite music: anything that is easily understandable. songs with gaps after every word after being censored? no thanks...

favorite tv shows: the news, almost any comedy, lost

favorite restaurants: my kitchen - there's always something available and ready to eat, no gas mileage involved

I'll say. I could never come up with something like that.

Thanks for letting me know about your snow photos. The birds were keeping us busy in our yard too! I have never seen a woodpecker at any of our seed feeders. They are always on the suet feeders. Thanks for sharing!

""And I am also terrified of her" -- you never want her mad in the kitchen. In that place, everything can be used as a deadly weapon!"

And I need to sleep eventually.

Hey Joe, seeing how you like photography, this is from the webcam in Talkeetna, on the south side of the Alaska Range, of Mt. McKinley (Denali) and the mountains that surround it.

http://www.talkeetnaair.com/webcam/index.html

The mountains are out beautiful today!!

Bowling was fun. It does make the arms sore though.

Thanks Java. Yeah your right, seems it has rained a few times or more when i have attented a funeral. Strange..Hope you have a good week as well. Thanks for saying hi..Bye for now.

Hi javajoe, the barns are diagonally across from Bill Ellis's Barbecue. I think there's a Sheets right across the street from the Antique Barn and Hobby Shop. Glad you liked them.

In Apex - There's one on Hyw. 55 just north of Hwy 64....1900 Hyw 55. (919)362-4111

In Raleigh, 550 Corporate Center Dr., (919) 859-0288.

Hey, I missed your good wishes on Friday. it was a good weekend. Fast..but good! -Angela

Hey Joe, check out the ArcticCam...it is almost 930 and still a hint of daylight out!! We are gaining light by leaps and bounds!! Heading for the 24/7 daylight here in a month or so. Hope you are doing well. Take care

http://www.newsminer.com/arcticcam/

Hey Joe, my brother was down on Davis Island fishing during that time when the lights came that far south. It was a "red" borealis, rare, but not unheard of. I guess there were cranking, and it was almost scarey!! Sometimes we see them so good it is like tripping on acid, without the drug!! This year has been one of the poorest years for viewing in ages, but like I said, my GF said when she was coming home at about 1 AM last night AST, they were really out good!! THat would be 0500 AM your time.

Joe the reason you do not see flamingos in the wild in the US is because they are NOT native to the 48 states, anywhere. You might see one, but it is what you call an "accidental" -- a bird out of its range.

The closest thing to a flamingo in the US is a Roseated Spoonbill.

I do not have a thisle feeder...just use wild bird seed mixture in the 2 feeders...are those the little black seeds??? We normally buy our seeds either at Southern States or WalMart. I keep a 5 gallon tight lid bucket full of seeds outside so squirrels can get in it.

Oh we have birds all over...

Yeah the Chickadee is loving my daughter which we were hoping not to happen...he likes to sit on her head and hand...climb all over her.

I am off to bed...long day since I was up since 5 AM...had to have other daughter in Durham at 6:30 this morning. Dragging behind tonight

No worries. Thanks though for the explanation. I didn't see a thing wrong with the blog but, there are so many trouble makers here on GOLO sometimes...you never know.

Thanks, Joe! I love people. I mean, not just to photograph, but in general, so that makes it really easy. I didn't think I'd be any good at it either, because it wasn't my "first" love. (I'm a macro and nature girl at heart.) But I found after shooting my kids and their friends it was a piece of cake. (Who can be harder to photograph than a handful of sullen, moody teenagers, right?) It just kinda snowballed from there. :)

When I popped over to leave this note, I hit the "handshake" button. I thought you were already on my friends list, especially since I enjoy your photos of the day so much. :)

Have a great day!

Hi,there!

Regarding making a few extra bucks at your photos....go check out the following sites:

http://www.photographersdirect.com/ http://www.redbubble.com

Also, if you're feeling froggy, get involved with some of the local festivals....Booth rental isn't crazy expensive, and I can send you the url to a great place to order mats/backer boards/poly bags. Let me know if you're interested and I will send you the URL's.

I know everyone around here has had a rough day, but I want to say thanks for the help with my computer (which lived). Stopped the add-ons and it quit shutting down. Downloaded Firefox and am using it now. Thanks again!!

Hey, Joe...It's been a little crazy around the house with the kids leaving, and then around golo, with Mike's passing. I just wanted to say that you did a fantastic job on the collage of pictures. What a great tribute!

Have a great day!

Joe, you are much smarter than I am. But how about the golo bumper sticker places over various signs at vacation destinations? Or on statues at destination spots?

I am happy you recognized the truck....that means the rolling advertisement may have some impact....

Keep up the excellent gallery.....

Hi Java and Thank You!!! These are the fruits...3 apple trees, 4 different kinds of grapes, 2 peaches, 2 pears, 2 cherries, nectarine, 2 plums, 2 blueberries, raspberries, blackberries, a banana tree, many strawberries. Strawberries are very easy to grow and these are not replanted but come up again from last year...and I use no chemicals on any of my plants nor veggies...maybe a bit of Sevin Dust now and then but 5% which is safe for humans and animals...I have one garden of nothing but berries. Wait until I get my veggie garden in and get that going...more pictures as it grows. I just love gardening and planting. Hard to believe there was nothing here when I moved in...single men *wink* Now I tease my Husband he can live off his land and I must move on to empty pastures *LOL*

I do love the rewards of growing my own and fresh and chemical free!!! There is one thing I strongly believe in and that is horse pooh!!! The best stuff!!! This orange clay we have here gets a bit hard BUT we have a Friend who has several horses which we have brought in truck loads...he gets me the stuff that has long been cured...no smell, black dirt, etc...if it is fresh it will burn the plants. I also know what he feeds them *LOL*

Happy Easter To You and Yours!!! *HUGS*

I think my feelings on it stem from living out in the country,"

Sounds like a wonderful childhood!!!

Enjoy your pictures & look forward to them each day. Agree with your favorite's list , too. Thanks for bringing a smile. :>

Hey,just to tel you how much I enjoy your pictures of the day.Thank you for doing this.Wishing you a very good night.

thanks for verifying tht snake. I have only senone of those copperheads as I mentioned in the blog. It scared my husband so badly he was shaking so hard he could not aim the gun. I remember when I walked out beside the front porch that day after the dog wouldn't stop barking, I'll never forget the feeling it gave me when I stared into it's face. Those eyes were weird, looked like color of cat eyes. It was the talk of the neigborhood at the time because we'd not seen one like it before.

Dont know how, or why I was booted from GOLO. I went away for a day, and came back, and my commenting privilages had been revolked. I hope you will continue to be on my friends list on my new profile (conamor2).

Hi Javajoe. Thanks for the note! I agree. I think I'm going to start posting a blog each day with info about the pet of the day. Right now, the only thing we do is post video of the pet on the pet page. I'm not sure how many people watch it there, though. By the way, I really enjoyed your slideshow of the Azalea garden. I was out there yesterday taking pictures, too!

Thank you for the Happy Birthday ((((Hugs))))

PLEASE tell me you planted that snake in the WRAL gardens just to scare me. Everyone on GOLO knows I detest snakes and you're telling me that it was right here on the premises??? Are you TRYING to taunt me on this Friday, Javajoe? Now I will have to walk another way!! Lovely image gallery, despite that rascal. I put it on the GOLO homepage. As always, your photos are stellar. Keep them coming. -Angela

-Angela

Do you know I just walked the super-long way to Quizno's for lunch because of the picture of that Snake? Good work, Mister Java. And why did you have to go there about a momma snake?

No problem. I thought that it was cool they used the pictures and mentioned your (screen)name!

Java...you are amazing! You take the most beautiful pictures!!

Thanks JJ, I appreciate it! :)

Thanks Joe. :-)

Here's my flickr, if you are interested:

oops, wrong link, lol.

LOL, thanks! That is Viper's dog. He is a sweet dog and just loves everyone, lol. He even took to jax's 3 yr. old son playing with him like a trooper. :-)

LOL, well I would hope your sister doesn't pee the floor. ;-) My german shepherd is in my image gallery. I need to get more pics of her to post. Hopefully by next month. My flickr is filling up for the month. I have to buy an unlimited and they are good for a year. That means I can put up as many as I like and the ones that I already have up, but are hidden due to only the newest 200 being available, will become available. There are several on there that can only be seen by friends. Do you have flickr?

ok, gotcha. Thanks! :-)

Thanks!

Thanks for the welcome. 12,000 HUH? I know..All 11,999 other members can send me a buck. ;)

hey hun, i got some pics im gonna put up soon that will be fun ~

Thanks Javajoe. These little birds get into my bldg & build a nest overnight it seems. Once they're in there we just leave them alone.....they don't stay a really long time....this nest is actually in my tool cabinet. I'll send some pics if i can do it w/o disturbing them. I think I can do that, we'll see.

Thanks again.

"So slick, do you miss those days?" - from your beach sunrise blog yesterday...

in some ways, yes. in some ways, no. the work was always challenging and exciting. but, the hours were ridiculous.

I'd like to join the bird watchers club. I've got a fedder and bird bath and am about to start planting native plants with the idea of having my yard certified as a Backyard Habitat by the NC Wildlife Federation. Thanks.

Hey - Love the pics you post. Got a quick question. I got a nice digital camera for Christmas, not too high tech, but got way more stuff than I know what to do with. Any suggestions for a book or website that could get me started? Thanks for the info!!

Thanks so much. It's a Kodak Easy Share - ZD8612 IS. It's on the beginner level, but trust me, if I get past point and click, I'm lost. The book that came with it isn't much help. I like what I've got so far, but again (for me, thank goodness for auto focus) not experimented too far because I know the camera itself is able to do so much more.

Thanks so much. I'm already browsing the first website. It has way more info that the book that came with it. I'll probably be back after I start messing with it. Love your pics!!
