Smile a lot -- it makes people wonder what you're up to! I grew up in the middle of nowhere, and that will always be my home. Now I'm into computer technologies -- it drives me crazy sometimes, but I love it.

Since joining GOLO, I've decided to start a Picture of the Day blog. Each day, I'll try my best to post a photo from my personal collection. While I'm at it, I'll ask a few questions or make a few comments to get your brains working and the conversation started. Everybody has a story to share -- feel free to share yours!

  • javajoe's Picture of the Day archives.
    • Here, you'll find all of my Picture of the Day posts from the past. Even if the day has already passed, stop in and share your comments - I'd love to hear them.
  • javajoe's Picture of the Day Group
    • Join the group to keep up with my daily blog post. Sometimes I post at 1-2AM, and by the time many of you login, my blog has disappeared from the GOLO homepage. So join the group, and easily find the link directly to my blog each day after I post!

now that is funny, glad your grandpa shrugged it off. I really hadn't thought of stacking wood with my dad in a long time, he was a great dad and even though it's been 29 years, I still get misty eye'd thinking of him and how young he was when he died. Thanks again for the blog, it brought back a most awesome memory!

"I love your pictures that you posted! No matter how hard I try, I can never get a good picture of people. But yours are great! Have a nice week. - javajoe"

Thanks, I've been taking pictures for just a few years now (since Joshua was 2 *see picture w/ Elmo one of my first ones) and I've experimented alot. I don't have a professional camera yet since I'm still learning. Too broke!

One thing I've learned is that natural light is the best. I turn my flash off. Most times it works beautifully except at nite. All I do is use software to lighten the picture. That's how I got the results with my picture of my niece Danielle and her daughter Jalyn in those cool colors. I also try to let as much of their faces fill the frame as possible.

If you haven't tried the free software from google called PICASA you need to. That's what I use on all my pictures for cropping, softening etc. Just drop me a line and I'll share what I've learned & maybe you can give me some tips too.

I posted to the blog, I am very impressed with your ability to take incredible shots. Unable to name the insect though. I have a fairly nice camera, am still learning how to use it. Hopefully I will learn to take pictures as good as you do.

Thank you for posting them.

We caught the changing of the guard when we were there last summer.

My kids thought it was cool... um... and they couldn't wait to ask me, when we left, why so many of the people were rude.

(There were ADULTS talking during the ceremony... good grief!)

It really is sobering, being in Arlington among all those graves. We walked around and read them for hours.

That's really cool. :)

Yanno, what amazed me is how they stand out there in the blistering heat (we were there in July) in FULL DRESS. Jesus, it has to be scorching hot. I read someplace that they have to work very hard not to become dehydrated. I would imagine so!

Great minds think alike, apparently. I appreciate the time you spend here. -Angela

Got Gas?

So, I will likely print that nice message you left me on my profile page and hang it in my office so I can read it on the days I want to scream. Good thing I have no windows! I'm kidding. Thanks Javajoe! -Angela

never been to Top of the Rock, where is that?

Hi Joe, long time, no chat. Hope all has been well with you. :)

Thanks for the link JJ, I appreciate it! :)

See, if you were REALLY good at interpreting those fortunes for your own good, you would have known that "Major reorganization is key in paving the path to success," really meant that your finances will soon be reorganized with added zeros and will therefore lead you to FINANCIAL success. :-) I keep those fortunes as well. They're hilarious. -Angela

LOVE that frog picture. I posted it on the GOLO home page and shortened the headline a bit so it would fit. But the snake comments give me the creeps! -Angela

Good morning! Happy Friday.

YAY it's Friday! I've been checking out your pic of the day for awhile, I just don't always have time to post. I have some pretty cool photo galleries, if you'd ever like to check them out. One of my friends said I can see the spirit in things, she was looking at pics from my Flower Hill gallery. And of course, there's pics of my spoiled pups. Have a great day!

Savannah will be 1 year old next month, the 6th. So in all the pic, she's a puppy, even though she's starting to look like a grown dog in some. The tilted head pics usually happen when I ask her if she's being a "good girl". Being a good girl is grounds for getting a treat. I like the one of her tethered to the back of my truck, barking. It was her first trip to a cooon club, there were tons of grown hounds around, and she was sooooo excited! She was a few days from being 5 months old then. She is a good girl, Princessly and a little bossy, but sweet. The other pup, Magic, she's the laid back sweetie. I'll be posting some new pics of them soon. I love the way their colors compliment eachother. Savannah is toward chocolate red, and Magic is more of a honey colored red. I'm actually pretty excited to see the new pics, myself! Have a great day!

love your pictures

You have a great Friday as well!

Thanks for the comment and the tip on the Destin pics - beautiful!

Re: the commercials, it's so funny - I made that list I posted during a commercial break when I was actually sitting at the the computer, and there were no political spots. I got up to get a cup of coffee, and during the next break, there were no less than FOUR political spots. They all seem to come in clumps, don't they?

I also tend to see a lot more of them when I have the Today show on getting ready for work than I do at night. But, that's just my limited and purely unscientific opinion. :-)

Speaking of the Destin pics, I noticed you had some Blue Angels shots in there. Have you been down for their Homecoming show in the fall? It's awesome - one of the best airshows around, IMHO. My dad, husband and I are all Navy vets, and with my dad living in Destin now, we get over to NAS Pensacola whenever we can. I love the museum there.

My dad has a buddy who lives in Pensacola who is involved with the restoration work that goes on there at the museum. Apparently if you're a local vet, there are opportunities for you to get involved and help with that kind of thing. How cool is that?

That alone was just about enough to get my husband (a former search and rescue swimmer, so he spent a lot of time on helicopters) ready to move down!

Good morning darlin', how are you?. I've not been on as much as I used to be. I do drop in and browse at times. I always look for your photos. They're always interesting and always something relatable. Work keeps me pretty busy, home too.

My husband reluctantly went with me once to have a pedicure. He loved it. Most guys have never, and will never have one, but they are very relaxing. My cousin treated me to one friday night after work, I guess I was celebrating how much fun we had, and my cute sexy toes with that statement!!...Oh, and for guys, polish is optional !!

Thanks for looking in Java, have a great day sweetie...

java good point, my next shoot actually will focus on the boy aspect of what society pushes =)

Hey Javajoe, thanks for stopping by and thanks for all the pictures you put up. I can't tell you how many times I seen some of your blogs, and it would bring back so many memeories I thought I had forgotten about.

As far as the stuffed animals, Im still amazed that I have held onto Icky for so long. My daughter has even informed me that she plans to bury him with me so we will always be together...Good thing I only have one bear otherwise my coffin would be so full there wouldn't be room for me!!! Hope your having a great day yourself, and I look forward to getting to know you...Kim

Hay Joe! I created a new gallery of my girls. There is a pic in there of the baby, Magic, asleep on my bed, and the sun is shining in on her. That is the coolest pic to me, it just oozes cosyness.

That house has been there since at least 1990. I fell in love with the outside back then. It was one of maybe 3 houses in the area. Now it is so built up and what was modern and stylish back then well now.... I still say it has personality. I guess I like sort of deco type stuff. Love the kitchen/living area and hey looking at the ocean it doesn't get any better. It could be a shack on the beach for me.

Hey JJ! All of your pictures are the "right place at the right time!" I don't always comment but I always look for them because they are all beautiful shots. Take care and have a great week!

You are welcome.Wishing you a very blessed week.

Good morning and happy Tuesday to you! The pic was nothing less than remarkable. It was awesome. I haven't seen anything like that on GOLO before. You have true talent and it shows in the works you display on here. I had to go back and look at it again. It was/is a beautiful pic! Hope you have a great day and awesome week ahead!

ANYTIME!

Have a great day :)

java, i have some great pics of the elephants ! and thanks

Hiya! Some people have the 'gift' and vision to take great pics. I envy that. I'm glad that you share your vision with golo.

Keep on Snappin'em ;-) Take Care

Hi Javajoe: Are the pictures in your image gallery from this year's state fair? If so, I'd like to add them to the main gallery we're showcasing on the WRAL.com State Fair page and the GOLO homepage. Let me know. They're great. -Angela

What a great idea for a group, you're just the coolest guy!

Good morning Java. You know, that's not a bad idea, blogging about decorating I mean. If I can figure out how to do that on the group site only ! I doubt most folks, men anyway, would appreciate a decorating for Christmas blog. You may have to walk me thru that one! We'll talk about it more. You have a great day sir...

It's almost criminal if I don't make regular trips to CP since I'm only about 10 minutes away. Like you, I like DeWayne's as well, but my wallet does NOT!!

Good morning, JJ ~~~ thanks! Normally I decorate a lot for Christmas - a little more classy than Halloween :) - but not going to do so this year. I live in a townhouse now, without much of a "play area." Had to "borrow" my ex's yard for Halloween.

There's something really nice to be said for living out in the "middle of nowhere." Peace, quiet, and no tourists!

Have a happy Thursday, JJ!

Be sure to invite him to your Christmas decorators group. -Angela

You keep me laughing, JavaJoe!

Joe -
