Smile a lot -- it makes people wonder what you're up to! I grew up in the middle of nowhere, and that will always be my home. Now I'm into computer technologies -- it drives me crazy sometimes, but I love it.

Since joining GOLO, I've decided to start a Picture of the Day blog. Each day, I'll try my best to post a photo from my personal collection. While I'm at it, I'll ask a few questions or make a few comments to get your brains working and the conversation started. Everybody has a story to share -- feel free to share yours!

  • javajoe's Picture of the Day archives.
    • Here, you'll find all of my Picture of the Day posts from the past. Even if the day has already passed, stop in and share your comments - I'd love to hear them.
  • javajoe's Picture of the Day Group
    • Join the group to keep up with my daily blog post. Sometimes I post at 1-2AM, and by the time many of you login, my blog has disappeared from the GOLO homepage. So join the group, and easily find the link directly to my blog each day after I post!

Hello Java, I hope you had a wonderful holiday weekend. Thanks for the info for uploading pictures. I plan on trying this soon, will let you know so you can view. Hope you have a nice week.

Thanks Joe.It means alot to me when you like my pictures. You are the "iconic" photographer on Golo.(I think that is the right word). I also took movies on my Coolpix but I don't know how to break the movies down for the really good pictures.Someday later I'll figure that one out.LOL

Hi Java...I just put some more Photos in the We Grow Our Own...a couple just for you *wink* Now don't hate on me...and make sure you sit back a bit so not to drool in keyboard *smiles*

We hate one heck of a thunderstorm here last night about 2 AM...woke me and my Daughter up...BUT garden needed the good soaking.

What is 10-10-10???

I know what you mean...I ate way to much this weekend too...I made Potato and Mac Salads, raw veggie tray, they had BBQ Chicken and I had Portabella Mushroom as well as a few others.

Good Morning, you are welcom the pctures in your gallery are beautiful, you do good work.Hope your day has started out good and that you have a good week.

Hi Java...Yes they are growing fast and flowers are getting big and opening wide. A couple years ago I followed some advise like I had read about...got it off the ground, extra root in a bottle of water which was buried, etc...hve not been successful. I keep trying though *smiles*

LOL, I knew that the coloring didn't quite seem right for cloves. =) But it could have been, ere they brown. =P Thanks for letting me know! =) Have a great evening. (((hugs)))

I do get the pumpkins growing...and get it up off the ground as suggested...take the root system that grows near the fruit and place it in a bottle of water for a bigger pumpkin which I do BUT that seems not to work as well as it claims...the root will either rot off, pests start attacking the pumpkin, or it grows a very od shape. Though try as I might because my Son must have pumpkins growing *LOL*

OMG you saying that reminds me of Ariel picking the flowers off the one peach tree that we did not want to have fruit this year and rubbing the flowers on the ones we did want fruit...it has them so must work *LOL* She was the one that is always showing me the reproduction organs in flowers, fruits, veggies, etc...Gosh you think about it and my whole yard is nothing but a giant orgy *LOL*

I better go to bed *LOL*

just curious -- where do you live ? when I saw your pics of Castalia , I thought you lived here in Cary; but , then I could tell it was another town.

ok, thanks -- just I knew the street in Cary ,as it was on the route my friend delivered to. (its a postal-thing) LOL

A sunflower?!! Wow, who woulda thunk it! It really was a close up then, I missed that one...Okay, do another one....**giggle** Those are pretty kewl!!

Have a great day darlin'~~

JJ, try landplaster on your tomatoes. Southern States stores are generally good places to get advice on your growing needs and pick up your supplies as well!

Supppp Joe!!

ya doing?

listen I need a pure funny picture for my caption this blog.

can you hook a brother up?

and dont worry I will give you the credit.

no prob.

thanks

Hey Joe! Happy Tues to ya!! Thanks for the shoutout about the blog. I appreciate that. When's the next batch of image gallery photos coming? lol By the way, what kind of camera do you use? It takes some of the best quality pictures I've ever seen anywhere. Add your expertise, and they're awesome to look at.

So it was a sunflower - I should have know. I love the fractal quality of the image

I love fractals. And the golden ratio... so many nature pics demonstrate these principles

Hey Joe! I actually have voted in every election I was able to vote in, so it is just my opinion - not my practice. But, long ago I got tired of people saying "you don't have a right to complain". Well, it aint popular, but I disagree! If you get a choice of death by firing squad or death by hanging and you don't want to decide, is it because you have a problem with commitment? :^)

Hey sugar, I love What the Heck Wednesday...it has a certain risque quality about it!! Whatever you go with, I'm there...

I know! Me too!!!

Good Morning Java!!! Love the Pumpkin pictures...Thank You for sharing!!! They look like good healthy plants starting there!!! We are just South of Henderson and went to Adventure Island for a Friend's child's Birthday. We had a lot of fun as did the Children...planning on going back again. It was funny seeing a Roses since most have closed down...I think maybe one of the last few left Huh??? I have not been to one of those stores since we lived in the Mountains.

Happy Hump day Joe!!

have a good one!

"My Picture of the Day group didn't make it, but I post a new blog everyday! LOL! Interesting list -- thanks for posting."

I wonder how they came up with the statistics.

I don't have a clue...But the way these people act I'm not surprised.

Just stopping by to say hello.Hope your day has been a nice one.

"Thanks for stopping by my blog, Prometheus --"

I've done the "hit and miss" thing today - sorta working...just dropping by for an opportune smarmy remark

" - it was a little on the hot side this afternoon!"

And there's why.....TOO hot.

Take it easy 'joe.

Hi sweetpea!!!!!!! ((((((((big hugs))))))))))

I don't know--But my Mother pointed out what killed our bush when she came to visit. SHE pointed out the worms on the Oak Tree. They are pretty dang nasty, and I don't mind putting them in the "bug cage." Where they are left for DAYS...LOL!

SHE loves to point out shortcomings when she comes to visit. At least the worms were at the top of her list! It kept her from going through my cabinets!!!

Goof blog, Java!

:)

GOOD blog, Java! (Is what I meant.)

It might have been at the beginning but from what I've seen, NO, those are not the worms.

It was a "native" bush. We didn't plant it--It just grew up between two pine trees.

Maybe the worms came from the pine trees? The link you left showed a pic of a pine branch...

That could be it. They were climbing all over the pine tree bases before moving to the Oak tree...

Good morning Joe! Have a good day.....

Hi Java...Yes that is acually a bug...spray with Soapy Water...will kill...or else Sevin Dust. Always do Soapy Water first.

I am off to the Beach...will check later and see what happens Have a great weekend!!!

Sorry if I grossed you out, although I have to admit I was going for the sick laugh when I answered. Fun contests; thanks!

Hey, Joe. Saw that you had some yellow jackets you were trying to get rid of. I discovered a nest that they built in the dirt of one of my planters. How did you get rid of yours? Thanks.

Thanks for the information on the yellow jackets. I definitely want them gone soon. Someone told me to approach them when it is dark and they are settled in the nest. I'm going to try to deal with them this weekend.

Have a good one!

Yes, it would be!! I plan on doing that very thing shortly...but without the palm tree. lol

Have a beautiful weekend Java!!

Now you're talking!! Chunk it!! LOL

Picture it: A nice sunny beach, palm trees swaying in the breeze, the ocean lapping the shore............and a kid kicks sand in your eye. LOL!!!

What really amazes me is the people who refuse to be seen inside of a Dollar store. I have friends who are like that I always say" well it's your loss on savings not mine!"

Hello Java, hope you are having a nice weekend. We had a really rough weekand I was not able to try to upload any pictures. As soon as can, I will try, and let you know.

re: yellow jackets. We went out around 1:00 am Sunday morning with a bottle of liquid sevin. Poured it on the hole in the dirt that they have been actively coming in and out of. This morning there seemed to be a smaller amount of activity but it was still active during the day. Seems that we need something stronger so will try to find the spray you were talking about. I'm hesitant about doing it during the day since they are so active. We'll try again with the killer stuff! Thanks for your suggestions.

It is called a ToadFish or something like that...had teth and all...but if you touch it and stings you it is poisonous. Leave it to me *LOL* Glad you enjoyed your trip to the Beach...it was relaxing for sure. Lots of Family Fun!!! We were laughing because Stephanie and I got our Saltwater and Freshwater Fish License...we all got new poles...so we are set for a year of fishing *smiles* Watch Out Headlong on the loose in the waters now *LOL* Wonder what kind of creatures I will find since I do tend to find the oddest looking things.

BTW how did you make out with the Pumpkins and the white fluff??? They are little bugs that look like that...looks like little cottonballs flying in the air. They land and breed...I have found several on my plants but a couple drops of dish soap in water seems to kill them right away.

Okay 7 AM comes early so off to bed I go...Good Night

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Toadfish

Yes that is the name...Toadfish

Thanks joe

Hi Joe -

Dollar General and Food Lion works good for us.

We also go to Carly C's when we're in Coats or Dunn cause they have wonderful meats and produce.

Ever been there? It's only about 15 minutes from our new home.

God bless.

RB

Hi Java...I do it one at a time *LOL* I have never used that before so not sure how to use it. And I did not think I could caption them if I used that for some reason. Why???

It is not to bad...I uploaded the 99 Vacation with cationing each about an hour or so with several breaks.

Yeah I think I had tried one time to use the zip loader and could not get it to work...that was when it was first up there to use. I could not get things sorted with it and stick to what I know works *LOL*

I've been having a blast watching the birds 'steal' my coconut liner for my flower basket. The last couple of days , they have been pulling what they need from among the flowers. Is ther a specific website that will help you identify what type of birds they are ? Thanks

Thanks, Joe -- reminds me sort-of of a wren. noticed the female has some red on the throat- & i think its the male that has more red from the head to the throat. Body is mostly grey.

yes, fairly close to that -- they seem to be thinner , but that is probably what it is. its a wire flower planter for the railing and I line it with the coconut liner. About 4 of them come every day and pull the coconut weave and fly off -- I assume to build their nests. I have the best time watching them , as its like watching females out shopping. lol

Thanks for helping me on the birds . I also have a hummingbird feeder handing right about my flower planter. I almost gave up , but they finally have found my feeder and I'm seeing them more now. Its a decent size balcony and gives me the fun of planting flowers and feeding the birds. Really relaxing---
