Smile a lot -- it makes people wonder what you're up to! I grew up in the middle of nowhere, and that will always be my home. Now I'm into computer technologies -- it drives me crazy sometimes, but I love it.

Since joining GOLO, I've decided to start a Picture of the Day blog. Each day, I'll try my best to post a photo from my personal collection. While I'm at it, I'll ask a few questions or make a few comments to get your brains working and the conversation started. Everybody has a story to share -- feel free to share yours!

  • javajoe's Picture of the Day archives.
    • Here, you'll find all of my Picture of the Day posts from the past. Even if the day has already passed, stop in and share your comments - I'd love to hear them.
  • javajoe's Picture of the Day Group
    • Join the group to keep up with my daily blog post. Sometimes I post at 1-2AM, and by the time many of you login, my blog has disappeared from the GOLO homepage. So join the group, and easily find the link directly to my blog each day after I post!

I got thunder, but no rain, so far anyway. Glad u doing OK.

My pool table...I usually try to find something big to put on it. Last year I put a sled, a pedal tractor, and put all of the photos on it. I called it the table of fame. This year I am going to try to make a snowman out of balloons. You know like in school when you made the stuff with the flour and water and used paper strips? But I want him to be really big. So I will have to find big balloons. Then I am going to put snow all around and put a spotlight on him. What do you think?

Howdy JJ! It's almost summer and I'm wide open. My time is limited and I just don't have the time to be on the puter that much during the summer. I rarely miss your pics though and thank you for what you do! :)

"We got just under an inch earlier this evening around 6-8, and it's been pouring for the last hour or so again. One good thing, though: didn't have to water the garden tonight!" If u want some good pics of weeds after this rain, come photo me front and back yard. LOL It is raining here now, has been for last 30 mins.

Hey Joe!! Happy Tuesday! Keep those great pics coming.

Hiya, Joe! Happy Wednesday. Hubby went to work entirely too early this morning and I couldn't go back to sleep so I thought I'd hit golo and catch up on messages. :) Having a great week, and hope you are, too! :)

A big Howdy back at ya!

I enjoy your pictures of the day very much. I'm curious as to what camera you're using... is that too nosy?!

Terri

Hey,wanted to stop by and say good morning to you.Going to have another humid day even though nice this morning.

Hi Java! I did have a good day yesterday. Yesterday and today were my days off, my "weekend". We had the most amazing storm yesterday. I was napping in the afternoon and the girls were playing outside. They come and go as they want to, will the cinder block steps and window open most of the time. Anyway, I woke up to this enormous BOOM and very loud thunder, which was followed by Savannah launching herself onto the bed behind me. She sat with her back to the wall, bedhind me and looking out the window. Poor Baby! She was trembling so hard that even her ears were trembling. Magic was defiant, though, she barked and growled at the loud noise. There is some kind of tower down in the woods behind the house, not sure what kind it is. Lightning struck it, that was the loud boom. Savannah stayed behind me for about an hour. Storms have never bothered her before, but now I don't know.

Hey JavaJoe, I'm doing great. Hope you are also...getting closer to Friday...such a great day ☺

LOL ! No hadn't noticed you want a morning person. My family has learned not say much to me in the mornings until I have had my first cup of coffee.:) hope the rest of the week is good for you and that you have a great weekend.

Stopping by to say hi and hope your day is going well. Happy Hump Day! =)

Hiya! Hubby had a generator run at 4 this morning so when he got up, I woke up and just couldn't go back to sleep. I was ready for bed about 2 hours ago, LOL...

Did you see Charles Boyer's pic of the lightning? It was fantastic. We only got storms after o'dark-thirty, and of course I slept straight thru. Usually, I will get the tri-pod up and the cam attached and then it starts raining into the porch and I can't get shots like that.

Happy Wednesday...bedtime 1 hour and counting, LOL...

Those big jumpie things might be just the ticket. Thank you for that suggestion. They will be a lot sturdier. I love, love Christmas decorations. If people would not think that I was crazy I would leave mine up all year long, cause they are one thing that makes me happy. The other half says that we need to build a Christmas house behind our house. I told him I was just waiting for him to start on that.

And how did you know I do that??? I hang those great big snowflakes from my bathroom ceiling...lol. And I hang those huge ornaments from my kitchen ceiling....

Thanks for the camera info. I have been eyeballing the digital SLRs for a couple of years now, but waiting for the price to come down. I noticed around Black Friday that there were some good buys - around $600, which is less than what I paid for my Fuji 4 or so megapixil back in 2000! I love my Fuji, as it has taken some wonderful pics and is much friendlier to use than the Kodak's (Dell must make the software for Kodak, as it's the most hateful I've ever used!). However, I'm getting a subtle spot on some photos, and not sure whether it's on the lens or the CCD is going. In any case, I want an SLR so I can shoot further out and wide angle. I want, I want!

Have a great day. Hope for no storms... my dog is terrified of thunder & lightening!

Terri

Fly-by HI! Have a blessed day!

Howdy!

Been busy with work and school, barely have any time to post now. Hopefully you are doing well?

Hi Joe -

My brother and I are always at thrift stores. We even get our clothes there, and I've even gotten Christmas presents there a few times.

The only thing I don't get there are shoes cause you have to take care of your feet and undies for obvious reasons.

Once we move into the new house, we'll be looking again cause I want to replace our couch.

Have a great evening dear friend.

God bless.

RB

We live near Lake Wheeler and are moving to Angier. Our favorite is Guardian Angel in Fuquay, and then we like the two by the ourdoor flea market on Capital Boulevard.

We should go shopping one Saturday.

God bless.

RB

Hi JJ! Good to hear from you. Beckett stays out of trouble because he's too old to do much but I expect he had his wild days by the time he was six. He's a rescue - I've had him for seven years now.

I hope you have a great weekend!

I was asking because I know some people that run their own photo places here in Jacksonville, and they go out on the beach to the parks, mostly out door stuff. I think that you would be really good at it and could make some good money!

Good Morning! Have a wonderful Sunday...

Good Morning Java!!! Thank You again *HUGS* Her thoughts have been for many years to do Architecture which that is what she has plans to study...when she told this to her FAA/Horticulture Teacher he said you know...you know she will be more into the Landscaping part of the projects. She is very wise when it comes to IDing plants, problems, pesticides, etc. Soooo we may have to see where she ends up.

Joe, that's kinda what I was thinking. Pick a spot and travel to that one (like the lighthouse) and travel the nearby area some. We'd spend Saturday night, mosey around some Sunday and head home. The trip there and back (I was guessing around 3 hours because we've done Swan Quarter and Harker's Island in that time). Then another weekend, we'd choose a different area on the Banks to travel to. Our kids are finally (maybe) able to stay home without burning the house down, although we did a cruise last year (5 days) and I was nearly beside myself until I could talk to them again. They were fine, just their mama was a basket case. I think this would be a great way to try out that camera you found me instructions for!

Java, may I reccommend a Japanese Maple,my neighbors have some and the red ones are gorgeous.the green ones are also lovely withtiny pointed leaves.I have also liked the poplar, because of the large tulip like flowers and then the large leaves. The Bartlett Pear doesn't bear fruit but as you can see they are gorgeous in bloom and then turn green in spring and reddish in fall. The trees in front of WakeMedCary are I think Service Berry trees like the ones the pioneers ate I am told.Sugar and red maple are the most beautiful in fall. The suagar maple looks like it's on fire with its flourescent orange/gold(we used to have one).

Oops!Bradford Pear!I have to correct that on my gallery!Glad I could help.

Ha! Grocery store checkouts and bathrooms are just the same- They are both empty until you need to use one. Then at least 10 people get there first!

I looked up the mirabilis japona. Very interesting and beautiful.Good luck with your plant/seeds.

How's it going, lynddsy? Just stopping by to say hello! javajoe GOLO member since July 2, 2008 June 9, 2009 1:05 p.m.

hi joe! so sweet of you to think of me! thank you. i have been busy and haven't been commenting on golo lately. i will try to do better in the future. how are you? still taking those great pictures? are you in school now? hope all is well. i need to go and answer some others but, will talk again soon.

you sound so busy! i will try to check in more often. thank you!! :)

I let them one year grow on the ground but for some reason they came out round like baseballs rather then long...last year they did not do well for some reason...this year they are growing up and through the fence as well as me putting a bit of extra smaller fence behind it...seems to like it better...but like you said and as you can see a bit oddly shaped.

Thank You for the compliments!!! My son is such a ham at times *LOL* I said be serious because I wanted to show how high things are growing using him as a guide...he is a clown *LOL* The beans have just blown me away...bush beans my hind end *LOL* I can climb those things if they keep up like this. Just 3 rows are doing this crazy stuff. I should be picking my yellow wax beans by this weekend YUM!!! Those are my favorites. I will be busy freezing a lot of beans and able to eat them all year round...that big bowl is full of them already. I will clean them up and freeze them unless they want them with dinner tomorrow.

Forgot to say...my neighbor cages his cucmbers and he has beautiful ones.

Yes you can really have a full of fresh stuff here...besides apples, and grapes I have 4 types of berries, pears, cherry, peaches, nectarines, plums, 3 types of grapes, banana, I am going to try Mangos, plus all the veggies. When we moved in here nothing...my husband laughed at me when I said I wanted to plant and have a big garden...he had heard that before...he did not realize I mean what I say *LOL*

I would love to learn how to can but never have tried...especially the tomatoes since you can't freeze them. And my Grandmother had a GREAT pickled Green Tomatoe recipe...I think my Sister has it and will have to get a copy BUT OMG sooo good...she would freeze the green ones before the last frost. Never would she wate either. BUT would love to learn how to do diced and sauce tomatoes I can use throughout the year...I make a lot of my sauces and use a lot of tomatoes in things. Beans, Zucchini, Yellow Squash is easy to freeze with the machine I have which takes air out of the bags and prevents freezer burn.

I better get to bed...a few hours past my bed time and if I plan on getting gardening time again tomorrow need to be awake *LOL* Greg said "Fry" day for Friday so may just want to be in pool that day BUT will see.

Good Night!!!

And before I head off I meant to tell you too...I am trying (testing) something my Aunt read about keeping squirrels where you don't want them...you take knee high pantyhose and put mothballs in them...hang them...they squirrels stay away. I will let you know how and if it works...I have one in each tree by my garden though they don;t seem to eat any plants or veggies just step on a few things...and one between the bird feeders. I will know tomorrow as I have a couple brave ones lately who like to test and see if dogs are around and how close they can get in the yard before the chase is on.

Pumpkin so far with horse poo is doing better still...though miracle grow one is not far behind *smiles*

You do have my home E mail address and are more then welcome to use *smiles* Sometimes a bit quicker response depending what I am doing.

Good Night!!! Really this time *LOL*

Joe!

How the heck are ya? I just looked at my profile and saw that you left me a message. :)

Thanks for thinkin' of me. :)

You're most welcome! I could only think of 3 people's blogs I actually look forward to reading and seeing on a consistent basis.

Thank you javajoe. I know I don't talk much on here, but I do pay attention and flap my keys when the feeling hits me.

Good Morning JavaJoe, and TGIF! I have not yet enjoyed that milkshake you suggested; however, I think today will be perfect. Extreme heat is the forecast and it should be most refreshing. My only concern is which flavor...:)

thanks Joe

That's a great suggestion, Javajoe. I'll give it some thought. -Angela

Thanks for the comment on my son's picture... He can fall asleep ANYWHERE and I agree I wish I could fall asleep that easily.. Have a safe and fun weekend!!

Hope you have a great and fun Father's Day Javajoe! Enjoy!!

Just stopping by to wish you a wonderful "Happy Father's Day " !!! and, to say how much I enjoy your pictures every day. {{{hugs}}

Glad you had a good day. I lost my Dad little-over 5 yrs ago. I still miss him terribly. But , my youngest sister was able to transfer him singing from a reel-to-reel to CDs. It is such a blessing to play that and be able to hear his voice. I miss him every day -- he always brightened a room with his humor. He taught me of God's beauty in the world around us.

Good Morning, just stopping by to wish you a good day.

joe, I have not forgotten about the birdie water feeder. I'll download some pics to my profile next week. New 'puter, lost software.
