I just registered so I hope to get a response really soon. I come from a military family and have always been grateful for those who support our troops. Thanks for letting me join the group.

Never heard of a letter being returned. What did it say on the envelope? Maybe try contacting the website. Not really sure why that happened.

My first soldier I adopted I never heard from either, then I adopted another one and we are in touch all the time.

IF you dont hear from the second one, I'd say third time is a charm and try your luck again! Sorry that happened to you.

Keep us posted!

67camaragirl - I've e-mailed you his information. Thanks for offering to help!!! I do understand how their primary job isn't to be a pen pal :) but it's hard not knowing if they're okay. Thanks also for the inside information on what it's like over there. Please thank your husband for his service!!!!

Try sending another letter and see if it comes back to you. Feel free to e-mail me his info and I will try to help you find out if something happened. 67camarogirl@bellsouth.net

Try not to get discouraged. I know how hard it is waiting to hear something.

Ice Cream are your soldiers in Iraq or Afghanistan? My husband is Afghanistan. Sometimes I don't receive e-mail from him for a month at a time. Sometimes his missions last that long sometimes he just doesn't have the time to wait in line to use the computer. They are often plagued with internet problems. They lose connection where he is frequently. I know in the past, when he was in Iraq, they would take internet communication down on purpose when a soldier dies until their family is notified. This prevents word from traveling back home ahead of the proper chain of command. It's also possible your soldier(s) could be home on leave. There are many reasons you have not heard anything yet.

As far as the returned letter goes, military mail does not always get forwarded when they move to different places. It should but sometimes it just doesn't. We had a Christmas card we sent to a friend returned before and never could figure out what the problem was.

Okay so a letter that I'd sent to my soldier was returned back to me. This has never happened before. I tried searching to see if something happened to him, and it doesn't look like it did, but beyond that I don't know what to do. I've sent him a few emails before (no response) and lots of cards, etc. (no response) and I emailed him asking if he was okay since my letter was returned (no response).

I have another soldier who I've sent a few emails to (no response) and several cards (no response).

Do I just have bad luck with this program?

Why thank you so very much! You can enroll your son in the program too !! Would be crazy if someone from Golo adopted him!! Thanks again : )

Just got me one o' them there soldiers! YAY! His name is Zachary and his home state is Texas. Any ideas on what I can send him would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

i went to adoptaplatoon.org and participated in a campaign. it was a few months ago, but it was a chocolate campaign, one time thing, and you can participate once, or you can do each campaign they have. i sent 5 boxes of chocolate items and a box of other items like first aid kits, tylenol, toothbrushes, little things that they need and like but dont get often. i had my 2 and 3 year old participate, i showed them pictures of soldiers on the computer and told them we were sending them goodies so they could catch the bad guys...it was a great opportunity to get them involved. ironically shortly after we saw some soldiers in their armed truck at the food lion and so then the girls got to actually meet the "good guys" that they chose goodies for. it was so nice for our family to help and the kids really were proud!

Sessy, Thanks for all your help in finding our guys people that care. My son is in Iraq at this moment on his 2nd tour and hopefully will be home by Christmas. I know there are allot of soldiers over there who don't have "anyone" to call or write to or recieve packages from home... and that's very hard on them. I always tell my son (which he does anyway, lol), to share what I send with his guys. Thank you again for this site. You are special!
